Turbo timer

all right I just got my GSX today, and I need to approximately how long I should let the turbo cool down b4 I shut off the car, it will be about a week or 2 b4 I can get a turbo timer bought and installed, so for all of you that know or have owned a turbo'd car, how long should I leave it running b4 shutting it off? I was thinking about 3 minutes? but i am gonna order a turbo timer so that I can just walk off with teh car running and then it will shut the car off for me. Any1 have any suggestions?

Completely depends on your driving style. If one day you rag the crap out of your car and stay on boost most of the time, 3 minutes would be good ... might even be considered excessive. Light turbo duty another day might only warrant 1 minute of cool down time. However, if you are only periodically on boost and spend most of your time in city driving with short trips to boost city, no cooldown is required since the driving around after being on boost is considered cool down time. However, it never hurts to be too cautious. For example, when I sold my Cougar with roughly 25K miles on the ticker, I had done 2 transmission flushes. This includes the first one to switch to Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF at 5K miles, then the second at 20K miles ... I planned on changing the ATF every 15K miles even though the manual called for every 30K. Figured it was the least I could do considering how I drove the car. If you know that you are going to rag on the car constantly ... I would ... treat her nice and give her all the best things that she can have. Don't cut any corners with a turbo car!

thanks for your help FC, i ordered a blitz turbo timer and it will just always let the turbos cool down for 3 minutes or whatever i set it at and then shut the car off on it's own. I spent so much $$$ today it's crazy, I'll have to buy a digital camera so I can take pics of my baby, but that is a coupel hundred i could put into the car. I bought my first non performace thing today thought I got racing seats, damn things cost me $725 a piece. I luv being able to buy anything i want and not worring about not having the cash. So far with the apex FMIC($1200) I have spent about 15K total including the car. Now I'm getting ready to dip into the 1 years tuition dad is giving me since I got a free ride, I deposited 19K yesterday into my cars account. Only plan to spend maybe 10-12K of that on the car. BUt i'll wait till I get all of my new stuff to buy anything else.

Not being a ass or anything, but for the people here who own a home, pay for a family, and mod when they can afford please try not to brag about having oogles and oogles amounts of money to spend on your car. I'm sure its not your dads money so spend on brutha....just don't write it publicly ;)

Kinger- I wasn't tring to brag. Yeah you have a family, and yeah you have a house, and yes you mod your car. I have an apartment, I have a girlfriend(almost fiance), I have a car I mod. I'm sorry that My school is gonna pay for my apartment because of my grades, and my dad is saving 100K+ off of the free ride I got, because of the grades I have gotten in high school.

Yes the money I am spending is all of my fathers to tell u the truth. HE bought me the cougar for my 16th birthday, I sold it and bought the eclipse a week ago, and had 3g's left over after the sell of the cougar and the purchase of the eclipse. Then for the last 5 years my dad has told me that if I got a full ride to college he would give me what 1 years tuition would have costed him. 1 year at IU med school would cost about 20K. SO my dad gave me 20K to spend on whatever I wanted. I deposited it in an account, and I am now spending it on my eclipse build up. I will spend prolly have of that on teh car, and the rest into my savings account for a rainy day...and my gf's ring. So I'm sorry u have a family that u spend money on and a house and your car. But I don't have all of those expenses so that is why I was just explaining the amount of $$$ I have to spend so Trevor know that if he has suggestions on parts I should buy, I should be able to afford most of them. SO he could go ahead and make the suggestions to give me more ideas. Sry if my comment offended you, even thought it had no reason to. It is your choice on how to spend your money and mine how to spend mine. And don't be upset by me posting how much money I have to spend on my car, because the is my business, and If I posted my budget it is just to let people with suggestions know that they can make them w/out worrying that I woudl not be able to afford what they ewere talking about in the frist place.

Many of us have a family, house, cars, boats, barns, horses, snakes, In-laws, son, food, etc. and we find time to mod our vehicles. No need to be sorry, just mod away and good luck :biggrin:

sry kinger for getting ****ty with you, but every1 I know have been d!ckheads lately because the way I'm choosing to spend my money. Surprisingly the only people that have supported my so called "hobby" are my gf and my dad. They both know how much cars mean to me. Hell, my dad used to get me to go to sleep by takin me for a drive around the block when i was little. So i have been a little touchy when people say stuff about my choices. But I'll keep every1 posted on the board about the car as it comes along. I almost wrecked the damn thing tonight. I was coming home about 20 minutes ago 12:30pm and a big semi was driving in the middle of the road, i was off in the grass and he missed me by about a foot. That really would have pissed me off.
