If you're extremely unhappy with the CD4E, but absolutely love the Cougar like I do, then do something about it!! It'll cost a fortune to actually "swap" the TX's, so, for $37 more a month, I traded in my '01 ATX C2 for an '02 MTX C2 with a power moon roof. Sorry if I misled anyone. ;)
It's the most logical approach in my book.
Now, I'm 100% satisfied with my ride.:biggrin:
For all you ATX'ers, the MTX kicks so much more ass than the ATX (not bragging, just that I had an ATX since February and experienced it 1st-hand - I, too, was disappointed with a 17+ sec 1/4 mile time). The dealer even said that a ton more people are requesting and asking about MTX V6's, however, the plant is closed (according to the sales guy, so, take that bit of info. with a grain of salt) and MTX V6's are a little scarce right now. Plus, the price of the Cougar is approx. $1500 cheaper than they were last year, for what reasons, I can only guess (slow economy, 9/11 stuff).
That's all!
Dan

PS2: EDIT: Yep, I know I'm quite a jackass for misleading you, but it was fun, and...c'mon, you were surprised, right??

thread title implies something else, but you definately got the best deal on a tranny swap
I'm sure that for most people it's just not that simple. I for one do not like the 01-02 styling. I love the looks of the earlier models soo much better. Also I'm not gonna find that nice LSB color on the newer ones, so I keep my eye out for used MTX's with LSB, but I guess I'm happy enough with my auto.

Well.. the plant isnt really closed cuz they make the Mazda 626 there as well.. They are prolly not makin Cougars tho.. CEP cant make enought 2.5L Duratecs rite now.. They pump out like close to 10k a week and cant build enuff for the Escape, Tribute, Jag etc. The Cougars get the engines on a as needed basis.. so its pretty much special orders.. Kinda sux
Props:)
That IS the best approach!:)

Good job... I agree that this is the most logical approach. I've actually gone to two different dealerships on two different occasions with the intent of trading in my ATX for an MTX. Both times, the dealers only had ATX's on the lot. :(
I'm getting my G-Tech Pro in a few days. If my car is still slower than a stock MTX, it will have to go... I don't think that will be the case, but if it is... ohhhhh boy... will I hit the roof.

Dan - I tried that today, and the dealer was a jackass about it. They will only give me 10k for my car b/c of that crack in my bumper (you saw it at the columbus meet, if u remember) when it really bluebooks for 16,500. The MTX I saw went for 18,500. Anyway, the way the dealer worked it out was that it'd cost me an extra $100 a month to swap my 01 ATX for the 02 MTX (C2). By the way - the 02 is missing a lot of the stuff my car has like leather seats, premium sound, and moonroof. I don't get why they have to be such cocks about it. Anyway, I tried to fix my ATX problem like u did, but unfortunately, my dealer's not as cool as urs ;)

Cougar0102, go to another dealer. Make them fight for you, not you for them ;)

They can swap out seats, wheels, etc. if the REALLY want to sell you a car. If they won't go the extra mile for you, than they don't deserve your business. :)
They didn't give me the perfect amount for my 2001, but, I had made a few double payments, used X-plan, and had put a lot down on it. I used X-plan again and put a few $$$ down on the 2002. The big thing for me was that they actaully had the EXACT car I was looking for on their lot.
WTF? $10,500.00 for your '01 ATX ???? What a rip!
They gave me $14500 for my '01 ATX C2 (including cashing in my extended warranty). The '01 C2 had a 1/2" hole + light scratches on the rear bumper, badly scratched up window tint on the driver's side, and about 16000 miles. I think the dual exhaust and red calipers did the trick
Yep, try another dealer. Don't tell them you're trading anything in. Don't tell them WHY you really want the MTX. Tell them you're putting -0- dollars down. Then, after they work their deal, work in the rest of your stuff, and you'll actually SEE your trade-in and down payment lower the payment like they should. Otherwise, they magically hide your extra $$$ in their calculations. If they don't budge, give them your name/number to call you if they change their minds and want to sell you a car.
Plus, go to other dealers and have them work out the same deal. If it's better, go to the next dealer and tell them to beat THAT price, then go back...yadda..yadda..yadda. "Work these salespeople over -- it's their job to confuse you into spending more, and discourage you into saving less." (That's a quote from my Granndpa!)
Hell, you'd think they'd be dying to rid their lots of '02 Cougars since the "big announcement".
Good luck!

The guy at the dealer I went to was a snake. I didn't like him when I bought my car, and I didn't like him when I went back looking for a new one. He ripped me off before on the trade-in (only about by 1k tho) but I needed a new car for the winter pretty bad (had a RWD 93 Jeep... Trust me, they sell em' like that in the South where we got it) and I dealt w/ the rip-off.
However, I went to a new dealership today for a service. The guy said they're getting in a Roush Cougar in a week. It just so happens that I have to go back next week to have a new steering wheel put on (leather wrapping peeled up :(). I might check that out then to check that out.
As much as I hate having an ATX, I'm pretty sure I'm going to put up with it for the sake of less hassle. I'll just have to wait til my next car (... After I unload my paychecks into this one of course between payments and cosmetic mods ...) to get a MTX... And my next car will definately be a silver WRX, fully loaded... (just gotta wait for the lotto, or for some rich person in my family to die. lol j/k ;))
