This message isn't just directed at Keane-- he just seems like the best bet. I just bought a set of 5 1/4 component speakers, which of course come with crossovers. The low end of the midrange is 60 Hz, and the crossover on the amp for my subs is set at 100 Hz, so I figured I would cap off the low end of the components there. When I looked at "bass blockers" at Circuit they were rated at 100Hz at 8 Ohms or 200Hz at 4 Ohms. Since the component crossovers lower the impedance of each speaker to 4 ohms, would I use these before the crossovers or would I need "bass blockers" rated at 100 Hz at 4 ohms and put them after the crossovers and before the midrange? I proofread this question twice and I think I've got all the info right, but tell me if it doesn't make sense.

The component system crossover doesn't actually set the impedance of the midbass driver. The voice coil winding in the midbass driver is what sets the impedance.
As for the root of your question, I would place the bass blocker on the speaker wire between the crossover and the midbass driver. A bass blocker is a high-pass passive crossover. A 200Hz bass blocker will leave a gap between 100Hz and 200Hz since your subwoofer's crossover point on the amplifier is 100Hz. It would be better if you could find a 100Hz bass blocker either through special order or from another store. Good luck.
Peace,

Thanks Keane. That's what the guy at Circuit told me about the crossover... in my mind it made sense, but I should know better than to believe the install techs at Circuit or Best Buy. I figured that I would have to place it inline with the driver, but I wanted to double-check with somebody who knows what they're talking about. Thanks again.
