well guys... I got in a wreck tonight with a woman who decided to slam on breaks at the last minute before a turn.. so yeah... I've pretty much totaled the cougar... airbags deployed and the front end is crushed up to the second crumple zone... I've got pictures that my friends took so I'll be posting them as soon as I can move my right arm! no telling what will happen next... prolly end up in some POS for the next 15 years while i work on paying all of this **** off... but i guess you gotta remember... just when you think things cant get any worse... they do!!! So i'm prolly gonna disappear for a lil while while I figure out what in the hell i'm gonna do about all of this... so you all take care and be careful!!!!

Chris

PS... yes... this means I wont be making it to atlanta this weekend... and I was REALLY REALLY looking forward to coming! :(

Sorry to here that man. Unfortunately, most of the time when you rearend someone, it's automatically your fault for "following to closely" which I think is a bunch of BS. I hope everything works out for you. Keep us posted on what happens.

I am sorry Chris...at least you are ok.

And aren't you required to have car insurance?

hehe yeah... i have insurance... it'll cover my car and hers... so no biggie... and no need to worry about a lawyer... seeing how the state of georgia says it's my fault for hitting her from behind... regardless of what she does... so we'll just have to wait and see what happens... currently... im driving a mitsubishi galant... whoopee! (yeah right!) but thanks for all of your concerns...

Not if there was a witness that saw her stop suddenly and can vouch for how far away you were

I rear ended a lady once whom ended up getting cut off and had to suddnly stop cause the guy that cut her off stopped suddenly, there was a witness that said I was far enough back not followng to close and that the guy had cause her to stop suddenly. We had to go to court over it but the judge ruled it no fault....

DId anyone see it??

My mom was cut off by someone who was cut off and she rear-ended him. She had wo witnesses saying she wasn't 'following too close' but she sill got the ticket and had to pay it. Guess it depends on the cop and judge.

:( man i'm so sorry to hear about your wreck. that suxs. i just had one back in august of 2001 and totalled out my 2000 dodge neon; thats actually how i got in to my new cougar. sorry again about the misfurtune. good luck.

yes... i have one key witness that saw the whole thing... it was my buddy that was following behind me... the lady I hit, the woman who's yard I pushed her into, and I all told the cop that we didn't know what had happened... because at the time I was blanked out as far as what happened... I didn't receive a ticket... however I'll be picking up the police report tomorrow to find out what the officers rule on it...

just a quick question... with a most likely totalled cougar and a small amount of damage to the other car, does anyone thing my insurance will go up? (ive talked to people who've been through worse... and theirs didnt) and if it DOES go up... how much do any of you think? (if it's totalled... ive got a few vehicles in mind, including a 2002 Cougar, 2002 Celica, and 2002 Ford F-150).

Your car is almost gauranteed not to be totalled.. damages probably less than 1/3rd the value of the car..

find out OEM prices on hood and bumper, if it's cheaper see if the Ins. company will go for an aftermarket..

I don't know the answer. but it's good to know everyones o.k. BTW my car was in a wreck. It WAS parked. and I guess my neighbor was drunk and hit it at 2 in the mourning. Took a month to replace the whole front end.

well... here's some good news... the early estimates show that the cougar will not be totaled...

tomorrow they're putting it on the frame machine to check the frame and they'll begin to pull the front end apart to check for engine damage... if frame and engine are fine... they'll start working on it the next day...

and i talked with my dad... seeing how his name is on the purchase as well as mine... and he says he does not care if i use aftermarket parts or not! :)

ALSO... on the accident report, my contributing factor was following too close, hers was improper signal / no signal... which will somewhat save me from being sued...

Well that's good news...what aftermarket parts were you considering??? I remember you like sublety..like me...we talked about z3 fenders....yeah...but I cant see you getting an aerogear hood.?.?.?....hummmmmm....

ccc3
12-08-2001, 03:30 PM
Um.. if there's no engine damage, then it won't be totaled, so here's what im looking at doing... dad's ok with it... just gotta talk the shop people into it...

Z3 fenders
Kamanari Full Fiberglass Hood
Ford Cougar Grill & Emblem
Australian Cougar Headlamps
Ford Cougar Front Tag Holder
(these will all be paid for by insurance money)

and as far as the bumper... it's going to be stock... but I haven't decided whether or not i want to put the 01 bumper cover back on there... or if I want to use the 99-00 one (since I'll probably be getting a subtle body kit later down the road... and from what I've seen... the ones for the 01 are kinda wild so far... i may go with the 99-00 one!)

but yeah... it's still all up in the air right now...

When i totaled my Firebird when i was 16 don't recall the ins. going up!! and they said it was my fault too..so hope this helps! glad your alright though...
