Brought my Cougar into the dealer today for an oil leak I've had for awhile.

Diagnosis: leaky timing cover - $775 repair

I don't 100% believe them, and I'm afraid to mess with my engine, but for $775 I can be convinced otherwise. I'm working on getting my garage nice and heated and was wondering if someone who isn't afraid of their engine (Puck) could stop by for a couple hours one day to give me some pointers.

Anytime works for me. I don't plan on taking the Cougar anywhere before Cougarbash, so sometime before June would be good. I might just let it sit till the weather gets nice.

dude that sucks..... anyhow you prolly only need a new gasket (hopefully) but the real problem is i think we may need to pull the engine in order to get to that timing cover, but i'm not 100% sure on that... someone here certainly has the Ford Tech CD and we can just go through that to get the exact procedure of removing the cover.

Come on fellas, you guys should know by now, theres always a way around such problems. Like Puck said, I'm not sure if the motor has to come out or not. If it does, all ya need to do is use a engine craddle, drop the cross member so the motor hangs there, then u should be able to move the motor around enough to do what ya need to. Later fellas.

dude if im not mistaken the timing cover is a plastic cover to keep the dirt and other things away from the chains. I didnt know it held oil or anything? Even so. Im fairly sure it can be done without pulling the engine. If you want.... id love to tackle it. Just need heat for the old mans garage and im soooooo there.

On the other hand... if you can get the help of Leo and Craig.... eheheheheh lifts are cool.

Well I think I'm going to hold off till it's warmer out. Sometime in the spring. The thought of working on it in the dark in my garage while it's freezing outside isn't very appealing, and I'm not going to drive it till the spring anyways.

I'll take everyone up on their offer in the spring. Should have the MC-NECO website up and running to post it as a How-To.
