i was thinkin of 2.5 inch pipe with a single 5zigen fireball muffler for my exhaust. ive never heard this muffler or really even anything like it in person before. i thought somebody on here used to have this setup (or maybe dual fireball mufflers, i cant remember) but nothing came up in the search. what do you guys and gals think this would sound like?

they are really made for the rice/honda/acura crowd.. but it might sound good on a v6 i dunno, just hope when the secondaries kick in on our cars it doesnt sound like a herd of bumble bees, cuz with the vtech thats wut happens.. it sounds good untill it reached vtech point then it starts the whirling bee sound. :)

Do H4x0r5 make exhaust systems now? How do you pronounce "5zigen"?

If this is that exhaust that points up at the tips I think they're fugly. Performance or not. What about rain getting in?

5zigen is actually a very good name. (I've heard that zigen is the english pronounciation of dimension in Japanese... so basically it means 5th dimension) They have a very respectable racing program in Japan and have been quite successful in Formula Nippon (approx. equivalent to F3) for almost 20 years. Jacques Villeneuve was in Formula Nippon before Formula Atlantic. The company, however, concentrates on racing and offers very little for the aftermarket - no weird body kits, huge wings or anything like that. I think that all they offer are exhaust systems, mufflers and alloy wheels.

If you have your heart set on the 5zigen muffler, I'd recommend a 2.25 in pipe instead of 2.5. 2.25 seems to be optimal. Apex'i also makes a single exhaust system for our cars that you would probably also like. However, I prefer the look of a quasi-dual exhaust like a Yodude, a Borla, a Bassani, or a Pacesetter better than a single exhaust. I never liked the look of single exhaust, especially one with a huge tip, on the Cougar. Don't like the boy-racer look.

That was me with the 5zigen.

I'd recommend going with the 2.5" repipe if you have a V6. The sound is probably the best part next to how it looks. More of a deep tone over the higher pitch of many of the I4's out there. My car definitely has a sound of its own.

Performance wise, I love it. I dropped .3 on the 1/4 mile, but this was in addition to an intake. I've had the muffler for about a year and a half with no problems.

As for the pronunciation, I've always heard it as "Five Zigen". But it also can be seen as "Go Zigen" since the number five is "Go" in Japanese. Some of their cars sport a 555 sticker, meaning "Go, Go, Go!"

Ah, not the one I'm thinking of then. Is it VW that has those mufflers that the tips point up?

Jscullin, I think the tips you're thinking of are DTM tips. Synergii has quad DTMs, if you're looking for an example...
Lol, I'd never thought about the problem of rain getting in. Some euro exhaust manufacturers cut their logo into the metal, but it's usually right at the rim of the exhaust.

Those are DTM-style tips. I figure that you will mostly likely find them on European cars since DTM is a German race series (http://www.dtm-racing.net/) and one of the top race series in the world and at one time was considered more technically advanced than Formula 1. The only reason why DTM cars had tips like that was because the exhaust air directed upwards would make prevent other cars from drafting. At one point, DTM-style tips were optional on European M3s and other BMWs. Those round wheel-arches like on the Audi TT, also inspired by DTM.

ya, I got the 5zigen fireball too...

2.5 inch piping... but they moved my exhaust to the right hand side instead of the stock placement near the left... they said it would be better flow because less bends... I dunno :) I trust em... hehe..

the sound is pretty good, gets kinda raspy near the top end (when ya floor it in neutral) but in drive, ya never hear the rasp... its alright for sound, thought it would be a lot louder, thank god it isnt cuz I'd get anonyed :) hehehe but ya, I'm quite happy with it... paid $700 (CDN) installed.

performance wise... I dunno, found my car a bit sluggish near the bottom end, but really picks up after 4000 rpms, I have an automatic V6.

hmmm, I havent unhooked my battery, wonder if my puter chip knows I have an exhaust on, maybe I should do that... let it re-learn, think thats the reason for my sluggishness?
