i'm assuming from some other threads that it is an upgraded transmission... much like the built c4 i am putting in my maverick.
the reason i ask is i believe that either my clutch or possibly my transmission is going out and i would much rather upgrade to something that can handle power.
thank you

A Bulldog box is a custom built brand new MTX 75 transmission with your choice of Quaife or Torsion LSD.

Terry Haines makes them.

On top of that you would probably add a race clutch + lighter flywheel.

And you would have one hell of a transmission....probably able to survive 325hp+

so in the other thread where a price was listed at approx $2500.... it would be worth it correct?
even with a stock motor? maybe a few upgrades

If don't plan on modifying the car, I don't see why you would want to spend $2500 on the tranny. Save the money if you don't have plans on heavy modifications. I wouldn't consider this tranny unless I where planning 1) nitrous 2) supercharger 3) turbocharger or 4) heavy NA Buildup. However, I just read your other post about having tranny problems, so I guess if it needs replacing, no better excuse to upgrade

Sigh, memories....my first car in high school was an old '73 Maverick handed down from my father. Straight six, 250 cu-in. What a great little car. Total list of options: FM radio (one speaker).

Too bad the gears still shred at UNDER 300hp.... dont ask how i know that either... but trust me... The syncros arnt the problem with the mtx75... and that heater cooler isnt going to save the gears... the diff is great... but thats awfully expensive for an lsd install plus some other little nick nacks.

Think of it this way. Who has EVER fitted a "bulldog box" to any high hp duratec? COBM is the only one i know that has one and he has very few perf mods. Its going to take a power adder to kill a mtx75 unless you have serious work done to the engine. I know of nobody here with that situation.

Its a shame those new hardened gears are strait cut... that damb box prolly sounds like a formula one car. Trevor is right here. Spend the money elsewhere or upgrade the gears and diff. THAT will give you a 300+hp tranny... Im sorry but a bulldog box will not.

Not to be a ass David, can you back up the statement with some numbers for this engineer? I'm trying to understand why a former duratec engineer would give false claims that the the trans will be able to break halfshafts. Thanks

Kinger,

If you need proof I have about 6 transmissions worth and the same amount of production halfshafts, numbers are sometimes only numbers I have real pieces that have been really in a vehicle with real results. I can vouch for Dave's input.

Leo,

Thanks for the info, numbers aside and using real world results, a bulldog box is not worth the money? What do you use to keep those wheels eating tarmac? Thanks!

Kinger,
We have been lucky to work with some great guys at Ford Racing who worked on the FR-200 and together have learned about the weak and strong points of a Ford/Mercury drive line. The Ford driveline is very good until you exceed the design and production intent. Like in Trevor's note unless you do some significant Hp upgrades spend your money in other areas.

Leo,

I'm hoping that you can give me some advise. My personal goal is to have my Cougar match the Italian coupes that it directly competes with in Europe when it comes to performance; the 220hp Alfa Romeo GTV 3.0L V6 and the 220hp Fiat Coupe 2.0L turbo I5. (ok, maybe to make it just a tad better than the Italian coupes) I have had some experience driving a friend's Jetta before and after a Quaife ATB differential upgrade and I would like to install one in my Cougar along with a better clutch. Taking this in concideration, would it also be wise to spend extra money on any other tranny upgrades to cope with the extra power or does my goals fall within the tolerance range of the MTX-75 transaxle? Ford's Mondeo ST concept puts out 220hp and has, I assume, an MTX75. Many say say that it is very close to what will go into production as the Mondeo's flag ship model.

I was previously considering getting a bulldog box since Terry's shop is that far away from where I live.

Leo,

I too would like to know what you think I should do with my driveline when i decide to go with a built turbo engine. My plans are to build the engine to withstand upwards of 14lbs+ of boost, somewhere in the neighborhood of 350-400HP or so.... It will take me quit some time to save the money to build up the block and what not, but i want to do it the right way the first time. I already contacted aftermarket driveshaft companys and they have shafts that can handle that kind of power. I will also get a LSD, clutch, and flywheel, but that leaves the tranny to be worked on. What do i do?

I may add something here, first an lsd will be a good investment (I'd broke 4 trannies before ) so I kind of know how weak this things are. Leo I'm near you mark of breaking mtx75 just kidding :). I have drove my car for about 10000 hard driven miles with no problem since TH installed my tranny. I'm sure Leo can break this tranny but a stage 1 bulldog box was never intent for professional racing. It was build for road driving and occasional track racing, if you want a racing tranny I'm sure Terry or Leo can build one for some serious $$$. Remember a "Bull Dog" Tranny is un upgrade from stock and it has several stages ask for the stage that suit you needs.

Always remember speed cost money a lots of it!!!!!!!!!!!
