how hard is it to do this, what tools do you need, and if its not too hard, how do you do it.

Well it might have been just because you didn't resent the battery in a while.

To clean the throttle body all you need is a screwdriver. The throttle body is right where in the intake hose meets the manifold. Just take the intake hose off, spray some throttle body cleaner (carb cleaner, same stuff) clean it out real good, also make sure you pull the throttle linkage back, that way you can clean all the gunk out inside too. Then, you can start your car, and spray it in there with the car running, however you need to pull back on the throttle because it's going to want to shut off. Don't worry if your car doesn't start right up afterwards, it usually does that. Also if you see white smoke out of your exhaust, don't worry about that either! LOL!

DO NOT USE CARB CLEANER.... you can use Carb/TB cleaner but not stictly Carb cleaner.... the best would be to use a Throttle Body Cleaner. There is a coating on your TB, the Carb Cleaner will eat this coating away.
