View Full Version : Weird thing about resetting Computer

Yesterday for the first time in a long time I reset my computer. I thought it would be a good thing, since I have almost every mod that you can buy for a cougar except for a few things. Plus I just got through installing my ram air set up i ordered from Weapon R.
Anyway, I reset my computer and drove off and for some reason my car felt slow. So I did a 0-60 test real fast and most all the time my car will do 0-60 in 7.4-7.6 which is good for an ATX. Well I timed it and it was 10.22 and I was liek "WTF" I almost had a heart attack. Then I though well maybe when I reset my computer it reset my chip, or something. I didn't know what happened so I finally gave up on it. Well this morning im going to work so I try another 0-60 test, this time 8.72. Strange because it was on the same stretch of road. After Work I drive to the store and some other places and my time keeps improving.
I wondered is this normal? Does it take a while for mods to set in with the computer even if you reset your computer? I just undid the battery cable for about 30 minutes. Is there something else I should be doing. My car hasn't got back to my regular time but slowly improving.
In case anyone can figure out anything here is a list of mods,
MSDS Headers, 2.25 mandrel bent piping duel exhaust dynomax with no converter(which is wierd because after I reset my computer my exhaust started back firing again like when I first installed it)
MSD ignition digital 4, Custom burned PAC chip(pac chip seems to be working rpms go to 7200, could not do that without the chip), Underdrive pulley (the one from Kurtz Kustomz Motorsports), Bosch Platinum +4 spark plugs, Magnecore wires, Pro flow MAF, Weapon R ram air setup,
K&N oil filter, light weight rims(borbet Type T)..though I dont think that would have anything to do with it..Pierelli 6000 tires, Royal Purple oil, .........SVT upper and TB in the mail..yeah for me..
Im not sure if it just takes time for the comp. to recognize all my mods or if is one of them that caused this or what. Hopefully my car will go back to its original times.

I forgot to mention that my computer was taken out form under the dash and proggramed to fit my chip as well, that might have something to do with it.
I dont know about MTXs but an ATX no matter how much stuff including chips you put on it, has to get proggrammed as well as the chip in order to recognize the chip and the mods. I had all of these mods on my car and my chip was custom burned at the time and I was not seeing any performance gains. It was only till after the PAC technician took out my computer and sautered stuff inside there and whatever else he did , did my computer start recognizing mods and start working.

Sounds like your ECU is just relearning all your mods and adapting to them. Give it a few days or just go out and drive it like a madman and it should be back to normal in no time.

I agree, just give it time.

Giving it time doesn't mean NOT driving like a mad man, though ;)

On my 95 Contour, it takes up to a week to fully reset. Just drive like you normally would and the computer will relearn everything. Make sure you don't force it to learn in open loop mode by redlining it constantly.

My COugar gets faster over time after I reset the ECU by unplugging the battery....... MY car isnt like those other people Cougars that say their car is faster right after resetting the ECU......mine is slower right after resetting the ECU......
