Can you hook things upto the blank buttons on the dash (I have 2 inbetween my alarm led and the rear defroster). If so how easy is it?

can't we just change the stock setup slightly? I'll pull my dash apart tomorrow when I get to CT and see. I kinda like the idea 2

ditto on gary star, you can order that panel, to have all 4 working switches, i pulled it apart this weekend to take a look, its very easy to wire whatever you want to the switches, i plan on using them for my interior neon, and any other accents on the interior. Piece of cake, easy mod.

If you dont want to buy the extra buttons, I put my neon switch under my seat, on the outside as the plastic curves under the seat. It is out of site and easily accessible, i'll take a pic later today and post it.
could somebody please post a pic. of their interior neons. I would like to see how they look. Thanks
i know the two button in the mniddle are open but there is that blinkin red light and there is the defroster.. well with the new button is all four spots open or what?
im fuzzy with the buttons.. i know morph has done them and thats about it

Morph has successfully done it. I tried to dummy rig em a long time go but it isnt feasible. The best way is to buy the switches.

Yes....I have the Euro Assembly... it has the passive alarm and 3 functioning buttons with LEDS --- those are traction control, front windshield defrost and rear window defrost... its nifty!! :)
I had someone drill thu my original stock buttons to install toggles with a seperate LED for my strobes and neons but didn't like how it didn't look OEM... After talking to various dealers and Gary Star I found out that we cannot get replacement blanks and that the WHOLE button assembly must be purchased.. I was quoted over 50 bucks from the dealer and 32.50 from Gary... The assembly was ordered thru Gary and when it came it was the Euro one... I'm not sure if thats all that he has in stock or what but it was a definate win-win situation...

here is a picture of the button assembly that someone requested to me in PM that be posted... if you look closely you will see the part number incase you call Gary.. ;) All I suggest is that if you use these buttons please remove the image on them -- if you leave em and you don't have the features you have comitted a Rice Sin...

would it be possible to swap the alarm LED with a dual color one, or run a line from the switch to show when the secondaries are open? Just re-use the light if possible? After all, that light is only used when the car is off, so you won't be getting any confusing information if you could wire it right... If you could swap the LED you could have it flash red for the alarm, and a steady green for the secondaries...
Anyone think that would work, or have an idea on how to get it to work? How hard would it be to swap the LED? Impossible?

Smack if your not sure how its not worth digging into. Its too difficulty to do. This coming from someone who deals with electronics each and everyday. Sorry :(
what ever happened to the "jimmy rig the secondaries to open early" idea? wouldn't thgat need a switch?
i like the idea of havin extra launch power a button away

how do we take it out?

I have the slot second from the left made into a button. I have it connected to a circuit that turns on the alarm LED and also make the IAT sensor read lower, so I guess I have more power by the push of a button.
It wasn't all that hard to make that blank spot into a button and it only cost like a couple of bucks.

On the stock assembly, with the center two buttons blank, do the wires that go to were the traction control would be go anywhere? or do they have any juice in them?

Shawn,
Gary's site is fordpartsonline.com.
The page with the switches is here. (http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=searchCatalogKeyWord&siteid=213671)
The switch is 18 items down under collision.

to have traction control you need more than just a new button..... I don't think those wires are live at all that we have running to that blank button....

I now have a button where traction control would be, and a two color led in the blank next to it. there is power running to the harness for the traction control, you just have to cut the voltage down (it is at 12 volts)
I also have a REMOVABLE switch on the secondaries that only requires I take out the airbox and TB.
I was able to make the button using the stock parts, but it took some work - It may be easier for those who can afford it to just buy the assembly. But for those of us who are penny pinchers - there is hope. I got everything I needed from Radio shack (took a couple trips trying to figure out the voltage reduction - apparently no one can get this correct, so I had to figure it out myself)as well as a clip from Autozone and a spring from Lowes.
I don't have a proper wiring diagram to show, and I'm not sure I can properly convey what I did to make the button into a working one, but it wasn't too hard, just slow and delicate work (mostly mounting the LED to look as close to stock as I could manage)
anyway... BUWAAHAHAH It CAN be done!!! and by a non-engineer at that! hehe

If you were to buy the Euro switch assembly and install it for interior neons, does the switch connect to the fuse box, and which opening in the fuse box would you need to use to wire in the lights? I really like this idea, but I am no electrical engineer, that's for sure!
You can also have the dead buttons turned into functional ones for cheaper than it would cost to get the Euro set and convert them. Plus you won't have any icons that you don't want on the buttons.
Here is a picture of Nola's button set, he has traction control, so we only did one button for him. If you look at the picture, you will see that they look completly stock. But the button to the right of his traction control button is a functional button, works just like the TC and RD buttons. We hooked that up to his interior neons, and it works GREAT!!

Does the whole assembly pull out? I have these buttons on the way. Is it an easy swap?
I'm planning on running 1)Exterior Neons, 2)Interior Neons, 3)T.V. & PS2, 4)Rear Defrost

Does the power come from the battery to the fuse box and then to the switch, or do you need to connect the switch directly to the battery with an in line fuse?
I don't know which set up you are asking about, but my set up is easy. The buttons have a two wire switch, so it is an inline switch. You take the power wire running to your neons/tv/ect and cut it. Take the power lead and connect it to one wire, then the other half of the power wire and connect it to the other wire on the button. Takes all of about two minutes to hook them up, and you are ready to go.
I don't know what it would take to convert the Euro switches...but I can't see it being as easy as my kit. :)

The assembly comes out really easy. Slide a slim flathead screwdriver under a portion of the button assembly where the alarm light is and pry it forward gently. It should slide right out...

just a thought....could u just scrape off the icons on the buttons......there prolly just painted on there..then just take some fine sandpaper n buuf out the scratches is any.

Actually you CAN'T scrape off the Icons, they are go all the way back so that the light shines through. The ONLY thing that you could do would be to put a sticker of some kind over them...or just paint over it like you said, but you won't be able to change what lights up.:)

Unhooking the tractoin control button would mean that your traction control is permanently ENABLED, as you DISABLE traction control by pressing the button.
