I don't know if they'll work on a Cougar, but the AC Delco units that are installed on police spec Crown Vics and Caprice Classics (rest in peice big guy) are some pretty high output units.

I've emailed several major alternator manufacturers about high output alternators (200a) for our cars...and the cheapest one is 500$ If your still interested, email me and I can send you some email addresses/info.

500???? holy mother of cow....taht's a lot of money.....I was just lookin for anything better than stock....
what about batteries?? any good batteries that will take the load of my extra needs??

oh, another thing, just a question, this is a "rumor" I heard..is it true that everytime you jump-boost your battery, your battery life cuts in half????

Optima red & yellow tops are very good batteries.
I don't recall any of the cougar owners have an upgraded alternator, and there's a lot of people running some big amps (Jjenning, RockfordFosgate, Streetconcepts, Keane)

I don't know about boosting a battery cutting it's life in half, but batteries can only be totally discharged and recharged a certain number of times before they're useless. For the optima yellow top it's 350 times.

woa...that Optima yellow sounds like a sweet deal..damn..I gotta search for one of those...well, I dont know..my car's stalled on my couple of times in the past...and it all happened when Im not even drivin' fast....or in any way over-workin the engine...I just don't know why an ATX would stall?? first I must say its something electrical...that's why IM guessin is either the battery or the alternator...

hey dragon i would say the best thing to do in your case is to find a apliance/electrical shop that rebuilts electric motors or alternators. take your alt out give it to him for a day , let him change the regulator and he'll give it back to you . should only be about 80 bucks tops. mind you are keeping the same alternator.and he might be able to up the amperage a lil but you might have to talk to the guy. im looking to do this soon but i have looked into it and have talked to the guy and around here it looks to be about a 40-60 dollar jobs and only about 1 hr labor. my gauges dim at 3000 rpm and i get static on my radio now. so i have to do it soon before my alt burns out. good luck
