View Full Version : Another review of SVT IM & TB
The install was about 2.5 hours and it wsa painless (mainly because I had my mechanic do it ;) ). I had him clean out the PCV build-up while he was in there, which he said was actually pretty bad (13,500mi on my car). After everything got put back together, HOT DAMN. My car is a lot faster than I expected it to be. Between the new parts, cleaning the PCV build-up, and resetting the ECU, I'm really impressed. One of the biggest changes that I noticed was in the initial and part-throttle response. You get a whole lot more oomph with a whole lot less pedal deflection. I spent the first 30 seconds in my car learning how not to shift like an idiot. The other thing that I had my mechanic do was measure the size of the lower manifold ports...
Engine Build Date - 5/22/00
Lower IM primary diameter 1.310" ---------> 33.33mm
Lower IM secondary diameter 1.360" ---------> 34.54mm
All in all, I'm very happy with the purchase.

Funny how the extra power messes with your head. The Borla exhaust did the same to me, for the first couple weeks, I kept shifting too early. :flushed:
Glad it worked out well! Any plans to dyno?
I'm not sure that it's the power so much as it's the more aggresive TB. My guess is that it's set-up a bit differently to give more throttle for the same amount of pedal. It just makes it tricker to getinto gear. I took t out for a 10 mile back road cruise and I'm getting used to it. ;) As far as dynoing, I'd give my LEFT ARM to find one around here. I don't know of a single one here in Maine. As soon as I find one wihtin a reasonable distance, I'm there!
before the SVT upper was installed i would be driving at 90 mph and ataround 4k rpms, now i sit at 2-3... its neet and it still suprises me even in my atx

I am about to drive about 100 miles to purchase an SVT Upper Manifold and Throttle Body. I have a 2001 ATX.....are these two items well worth the money and trouble?
I would say that it depends. If you plan on doing several more mods to increase your car's breathing (better intake, headers, exhaust, etc, then I would say it's a good thing to do. If those two items are going to be your only mods to your engine, I'm not sure how happy with them you're going to be. Now, having said that, it's just my opinion. If you really want to get some SVT parts for your car, then go for it! You might decide to do just these and be really psyched with having something more unique done to your car. It's all up to you, but I would think that the performance gains from just these two items would be very very small.

MC,
Go here for dyno: Dyno (http://www.dynojet.com/lauto.shtml)
I've been to that site before. All I get is some guy's name, no contact info at all. I've got some family in Worcester MA so I've been thinking about maybe going down there. Maybe we could make a NECO NorthEast meet out of it in the spring.

Thanks for the info MC. I have already done a KKM SVT intake, and plan on a dual exhaust my next free weekend. The UIM and TB are next since i have a place to get them right now. So i guess I am probably making a good decision. Now i just need to find a way to install it all!!
