Ok, this happened a few months ago. The Day prior to the day this event took place, I had just recently washed and waxed my car. The actual day this happened it was a very sunny, cloudless day out. My cougar is black, and lets just say it was so shiney I could see myself in it better than in a mirror. This is what happened. I was driving on the highway and I was racing a new civic ex (which i killed but thats not the story) He was in the left lane, and I was in the right. I got up well past 100 and was doing probably around 110 and I had enough room to get in the left lane so I merged. Well don't I see a trooper sitting there right in the middle of the grass on the left hand side pointed in my direction. I see the cop get me, than throw the gun to the floor and try and get something outta the back seat as I fly by him. Ok i figured I was f*cked, going to jail, the whole thing. I slowed down got in the right lane, and I see the civic slowly catching up to me (i was doing the speed limit exactly at this point). The civic rolls past fairly slow, and the guy is like "sorry dude". So I start to pick it up a little again... and to my surprize... the cop NEVER came to get me. I dunno why the hell not. He got me plain as day. the only thing I can figure is that somehow my paint/wax/finish on my car reflected the radar, and/or lazer incorrectly and he couldn't get a reading. I'm no expert on how they work, but I can't explain what happened. Anyone have any ideas?

i don't speed so much lately cause if i get one more i get my license revoked for a few months... i've been stopped like 18 times in a couple years

Similar thing happened to me one time I breezed by a cop at around 115. Believe it or not, some police officers are required not to get into a high speed pursuit if they clock you going that fast. Those jobs are usually for the interceptor Camaro’s and not your standard issue Crown Vic’s. It puts both you and the cop at risk if he ever needs to catch up to you going that speed, so the best thing they can do is radio in for backup..and that’s what he was probably trying to do. Consider yourself very lucky!

That reminds me of that that radio show someone put on here some time back about the guy who washes and waxes his camaro so that it would be stealth... hahaha... I don't think that's true... I got a black car, and I was actually playing with one of those trailer radar stations that shows you your speed as you pass it to test that theory once though... it had my exact speed every time (and I had just washed the car and don't have a front license plate).

Question though, how the heck did you see the cop inside his car as you whizzed passed him at that speed? good eye sight.

I have 20/10 vision. I was able to see in his car fairly well, I was above him looking down the way the road was. He looked like he was scrambling for something, but I did hit my breaks and get down to 80 as I went by him.

You've got to think about it for a second. If you fly by him at 100+ miles/hour, there's no way he's going to have time to get in his car and catch up to you unless he goes like 150 miles/hour which most cops are not allowed to do. Even though you slowed to 80 as you passed him, he probably clocked you at about 100. So rather than try to catch up with you, he was probably trying to grab his radio and call for someone else up ahead to pull you over. You're pretty lucky you didn't pass by any other cops cause they probably would have pulled you over and hauled you off to jail.

You're also lucky he didnt catch your plate. I'm sure he would of loved to mail you a letter and say "hello"!

No car wash/wax in the world will make you "invisible" to radar. Hell, cleanin it might actually help the wave rebound. It takes complex geometric shapes that make your 3D object "look" like a 2D object to a radar (something to do with a radar's cross-sections, or something like that, if I remember right). On top of that, radar absorbing material is also used. Thats how the F-117 Stealth does it.

I bet he didn't even know what to tell his backup...

"Unit 24, I got a speeder on mile marker 153; a black......umm......damn, what was that thing?"

or he flat out called you an eclipse, or a jaguar or something

Ive heard that black does mess up radars but I doubt it is true.

The color of the paint won't do anything to absorb or reflect the radar (at a different angle). If you had radar-absorptive black plaint like they use on F117's and B2's, sure... ;) But no, black-color paint won't mess with the radar by simply being black.

That's a good explanation of how radar works. I love :)www.howstuffworks.com (http://www.howstuffworks.com)

My suggestion: buy a radar detector. Mine has saved me several times and I drive up the interstate at an average of about 80mph nearly everyday.

heh, radar ditectors are not fool proof, and I did have one. I don't use it now because my eyes are more effective, that any radar ditector. and if you are pulled over with a radar ditector you are gaurenteed a ticket. I'd rather get pulled over and be able to talk my way out of a ticket than be screwed from the begining. And if the cop is using Lazer, well it's too late, here is no warning with lazer. Also New York State Troopers are some of the smartest cops out there when it comes to radar, and they use it in short bursts so that it only triggers radar ditectors when it's too late.

Anyone ever use a radarblocker?

I thought about buying a radar jammer, but they cost like $300+ (the price of about 2 speeding tickets), and I would have to go to like Vegas or something to buy them.

1st of all if you are facin one way and the cop the other.. He has to completely turn around, speed up and get to you.

My story about something similar:
exGF, I and one of her friends are going down a highway. I was talking about how I had my moms Camry topped out on a local highway. Then her highly intellegent (you know, the prep school cheerleader type) friend said "I know a long hilly straight road where cops never sit".
I said "This will be interesting"
So we are goin over 100 down this road and we see (guess who) a cop. He turns his lights on, my ex starts freakin, her friend is in the back screamin about goin to jail, and I am tellin the bit... girl in the back to shut up, and my ex just looked at me. So I tell her to pull into a neighborhood (this was in the foothills). The smart girl my ex is, USES HER TURN SIGNAL (hey need to obey the law, felon or not). So we go down the long dirt road and pull into someones driveway. Sat there for over an hour then went out and went home.

I seen this video on the web where this uy is on a motorcycle and you can see him getting it at about 160MPH you see him pass a cop who is sitting after a bridge on the left, The guy gets off att he next exit and spins around to go back in the opposite direction, He kicks it up to about 90MPH, You see the cop just pulling onto the road when the guy goes back by inthe opposite direction...

I will find it and post a link
