Is this something that should be done my a professional, or can I do it myself?

professional
Yea, I knew you would say that. ;)
Oh I forgot something, I am going to have them painted black. If I was going to try to match the laser red I would go professional, no questions asked. But because I am going black I figured it would be easy to do myself. I am just afraid of chipping.

As long as you do it right, you should have no probs with chipping. Clean the covers with some rubbing alchohol, sand em down, prime, sand again, spray on 2 to 3 good coats, and than clear coat them. If you do all this, you should be just fine.
This might be a dumb question but if I sand it after I prime it, whouldn't I just end up sanding the primer off?

no, just hand sand them with 320 or even higher very lightly

If you are doing them black you can do them yourself easily... I've done 2 sets so far.. Spruce Green and Silver Frost.. I have another pair of tails that I will be working on in a few days when I get the Summit order.. Those will be for a Black Coug.. but they will not be painted Black ;)
