Fantasy Hockey - Draft: September 21st @ 9:00pm CST!

So since Amanda and Bbox have taken me out of my sports 'safe-zone' and started to get me hooked on Fantasy Football, I was wondering if anyone would also be interested in venturing into the icy world of Fantasy Hockey (NHL) this year... Season starts in October :)

yeah, but its the winter... gotta find some way to keep sane. Well, for those of us who actually GET winter! :)

I think it would be set up for points to keep it simple... just draft players, and it would be a big race for the most points. :) No head-to-head match-ups or anything that would require people to log in every day and keep constant watch.

I'm glad to hear that there's interest!

I mean, yeah there are more games and therefore might be a little more involved, but IMO, I find hockey to be one of the easiest games to understand and follow, so I can't imagine it being difficult for anyone. :)

Holy ****, something you don't know about? I wondered why the ground suddenly got cold.

I'll be happy to give you a crash course in all things fantasy. I'll have to do some checking on a hockey-specific league since I've never played in one though, but I'm sure it will translate fine.

I'm in . . . sigh . . . yeah, I'm in. But I'm warning EVERYONE getting involved in this, if you lame out and stop following because you have the attention span of a three year old, I will taunt you like I'm taunting Mario. This is FAR different from football and you have to be VERY involved to stay on top of hockey because its played pretty much seven days a week.

That's the only thing that worries me is the intensity of trying to do fantasy hockey- I mean, I have never missed a Sharks game either on the radio, TV, or live, and that was pretty tough to accomplish because there's SO many games, and I do have to work more than fulltime. :(

Another note for Norcal, for any type of fantasy sport you want to have knowledge of all the good players out there. It's not a good idea to draft everyone and their grandma from your favorite team, because if that specific team ends up sucking, your fantasy team will too. You want to have a wide mix of different players from other teams. Also, if you have more than 3 guys from the same team on your fantasy team, you're screwed if they have an off day so you'd be losing out on 3 positions.

Besides that, there's not a whole lot more to it. You just gotta pay attention to who's out there and if any of your players get injured, so you can pick someone up off the waiver wire to replace them.

Mike - don't worry, I had never played ANY fantasy league thing online before football, and I didn't even follow football... so I had two things against me, but bbox, and Amanda especially have been a big help, so i'm learning semi-quickly, and its not so bad. :)


Yeah, there are more games, but you are only working with a handful of players, its not like you are told to draft an entire team of 30+ players. :)
Honestly, I think if you just take 5 minutes every few days to check on your players, it will be fine. And I mean, obviously there will be conversation here to help keep everyone up to date if anything major happens.

I took a look at it, and I like the "Points" league option rather than the head-to head.
I might ask that the points be messed around with a bit... like:

Goals - 2 Points
Assists - 1 Point
Shutouts - 5 Points


It does have a 12 team max... so I'm thinking if Ty is in, and bobby, that makes 11, and I'm still desperately trying to convince Amanda (though its a tough sell, I might need help peer pressuring her :rofl:) , which would make an even 12!


It really doesn't look that complicated, even with the amount of games, the players you pick are easy to follow:

Left Winger (LW) 2
Right Winger (RW) 2
Defense (D) 4
Goalie (G) 2
then the backups

Please no. There is nothing - NOTHING - more boring than a points league. Its MUCH more enjoyable when you get to beat someone daily or weekly.

Actually I checked out a few other sites before posting, and really the Yahoo one seems the easiest to understand... I was a total noob about the football league, and mandyand ox were able to teach me pretty much everything in no time. :)

You know what...do you guys care if I change the league to CBS sportsline? The reason is because you have to pay to view live scoring on Yahoo, CBS is totally free. It's pretty easy to use too, and CBS has quicker player updates then Yahoo.
