so I had a thrown rod in my cougar at 90k no racing done.
and am going to have a new re manufactured engine with a 50k 3 year warranty placed in it after one year of waiting.

in the mean time I BUILT ( my first time ) a 1987 conquest tsi ( selling it to pay for cougar)
and its bin awesome...killer fast.
so I have learned a few things i know, i need to break the new engine in , but how long will it will be till its good to go? Or what tips i can grab to keep my cougar running better I know the power plant isnt that strong alot of people here seem to blow them up just using them...wondering if there is some modding I can do to make it stronger. for instance the tsi i removed the jet valves and 2nd air damn and egr valve. so the head wouldnt crack and the turbo would spool better... any way any one got some advice ??? ^^ thanks tony.
p.s i am still paying for the cougar thus the fixing , and even tho it doesnt have 300+ rwhp BUT its still so much fun to drive lol, as my girl says its niffty ^^ and fits me :P

as for the modding you can check the 2.5L section or the 3L section, and break ini is usally 500 or 1,000 miles of easy driving, and then change the oil after 1,000 miles

There really isn't any tips and tricks to a Coug...just mostly bolt on per say. Conquest's are sick cars...but then again your going from F/I to N/A. F/I cars do respond well to simple mods vs. N/A cars. Any reason why your really dumping the conquest? Why didn't you just drop in a 3L? In my mind Conquest>Cougar. Why not pick up a cheap DD or just drive the conquest and not drag race every light and power slide through every turn?

its my daily driver now i dont race it ^^ often only once and it was again an sti on the freeway ...:P silly sti's speed is for questers. any ways. because I owe 7k still on the cougar and the only way to get rid of it is to fix it and i know where to get conquests, so while I LOVE both of my cars how ever.... I need the cougar running. once I either have it running or sold i can get another. cougars are good sports cars, and mine sounds GREAT and mean when I rev but my tsi is WAY faster I got alot done in the time I have had it.

If i didnt owe any thing on the cougar i would keep my tsi... tho my cougar kills it in mpg. and in comfort, and people actually know what my cougar is or think they do any way ^^ lol

Check into the redesigned oil pan. That's the single most effective modification you can make to insure you don't throw another rod.

Do a search, and see what comes up. The new pans are baffled, and prevent the kind of oil starvation in corners that cause bearings to spin and rods to escape.
