We picked her up some time last month. She's a 99' automatic. The front bumper was fixed (with white duct tape lol) after these pictures were taken. I mean you can hardly tell . She does have a few problems and like 4 check engine lights! I didn't even know there were so many! There's one on the dash and three on the above console. Here's link to some pics:

Mom's New Car - CEG Forums (http://www.contour.org/ceg-vb/showthread.php?t=34105)

We had the CEL codes read but my mom tosses out the paper by accident.

What is the need for the preset buttons 2-5 to come out? Also, a month after we got it, the screen on the stereo is now blank. Lights up when the headlights are on and still plays music, but displays nothing. This car has seen better days. But she runs like a champ! (minus the CELs lol).

Alright first off

CD is cassette disc (or something) its not actually CD as we know it now adays lol..

Also the little button that pops out the 2-5 was to my thoughts a form of anti-theft when it came to the radio.. I could be wrong, but it is pretty damn annoying I must say..

As for the rest of your questions, I cant answer.. sorry.

congrats on the car.
im sure you can find everything here if you search.
the wrench light up top lights up every 4500 miles to indicate oil needs changed
the middle light is a low brake pads light: either because the pads or low or they were replaced with pads without sensors in them and the sensor wasnt bypassed.
the button on the radio is kinda like a detachable face so it cant be used unless those other button are connected. totally useless on factory radio.
and the "no cd detected", i would assume that there might be a cd changer in the trunk that has no cds in it.

WTF are you talking about? It plays a regular music CD. It doesn't do MP3 CDs, though.

But the head units in these cars have a tendency to fail in odd ways. Make sure the removable faceplate part is clipped in correctly and is staying in place, though.

See the Guide to the Lights thread stickied in this forum for the overhead lights. One is service interval, one is excessive brake wear, and one is exterior bulb failure.

From the pictures it looks like the car has or may have had a CD changer in the trunk. If it has one it's located on the passenger side.

You should be able to find the rest of your answers elsewhere on the forums in the stickied threads at the top of each section as mentioned above.

wow thank guys. The information was very helpful. I own a 96 Contour myself so I thought I'd swing by here to find out a little on the Cougar. Glad I stopped by! :)
