Ok well since the day I got the car my power windows have been so slow on going up that I often find myself waiting for it to stop going up altogether. Especially the passenger side. I also have noticed that the window shudders while going up. Is there anything I can do to help them go up faster? My transmission is shot until friday or saturday and so while my mechanic is building my new one he said I could come out on my days off and work on the car if I wanted to and he would help me when he could. But is there anything I can do to help them along the way?

Bump and a folow up question. Is the driver side window supposed to be automatic when you double tap it? It seems like mine wants to but doesn't.
Mine also could be a little faster if there's anyway to do that.

My driver side power window had the same problem ("shuddering") after a damn long winter.I decided to remove the door panel and correct the problem. You should do the same its pretty simple (IIRC):
Sorry no pictures :(
1- Find all screws retaining the door panel and remove them (torx and phillips) (look also under cougar head gem)
2- Remove the panel slowly and make sure to disconnect the door lock mechanism.
3- You will see a lot of moving parts, clean everything and put lubricant or grease on rails. Your window will now move up and down faster and softer!
4- Reverse procedure to reinstall.
5- Sorry for my english...

The drivers side window is auto-down when you SINGLE-tap it. It does not do auto-up.
The slow window could be out of alignment; it's adjustable with screws on the bottom edge of the door, but I wouldn't be anxious to mess with that. I'd end up hosing the whole thing. Also, is your battery okay? Weak battery = slow window operation...

That's what I meant. Double tap to go down. What should I do if it doesn't?

Either way, it doesn't do it. It seems to want to though. Think cleaning/greasing it up would do it?

Hi zerain. Maybe this will help. Here is a copy and paste from the Owners Manual (page 96 in the 2001 online version) concerning the One Touch Down Feature:
One touch down
The drivers window can be lowered automatically. Momentarily press the down button. The drivers window will open fully. Press the up button to interrupt one touch operation.
Just press the button very quickly. If you press the down button for more than a split second, it will not automatically open.
If you do not have your Owners Manual, you can download an online version here: http://www.fleet.ford.com/
Hover your cursor over the "Maintenance" banner towards the top middle of the page. Then click on "Owners Manuals". Fill in the drop down boxes with your vehicle information and click "Submit".
Hope this helps.
Good luck.

It's not an issue of how to make it automatically go down, its how to fix it if it doesn't do it anymore.

What happens is that the relay goes bad, and instead of fixing (replacing) it, people will bypass it or put in a standard automotive relay, which means no more one-touch down feature.
I haven't heard of a situation where the one-touch down relay failed but the window still worked, but anything is possible.

I"m actually having the EXACT problem as Zerain. Was working when I got my car, but the auto down has stopped (normal operation still works). I haven't been bothered enough to find out what's the problem, but be nice if someone had some experience with it.
