how to install neons?

does anybody know how to install neons under the instrument panel and glove compartment so when you open the door of the car it turns on....

u would probably have to wire it to like the dome light. thats the only thing i could think off that would work but im no electrical genius that just seems like the most obvious to me. or not the dome light itself like maybe the fuse that runs the dome light.

all you have to do is tap into the switch by the door.
its a small one that activates the lights when the door is open.
since i dont have my car, i cant show you the pic but if you open the door, you will see what i mean. you will have to take the rear panels off but its no biggy.

if u want them on while ur driving you could just wire them to a switch because its probably illegal in some states to have neons on while driving in or out hte car say like in VA i know its illegal to drive when them on and i think he might be illegal to even have them on the car. hell in VA a catback exhaust system is illegal because its not on the car from the factory.

i dont know about you but i dont think i could drive with a bright neon in the interior on all the time.

I dont want to drive while the neons are on, i just want them to be on when i open the door..

or just hook it up to a power source and hook up a switch...

wouldnt you have to tap into that line on both sides of the car if you did it at the doors? cause if you only tap into the drivers side....if you open the passenger side...nothing will happen other than the dome light.

I would hook them up to the dome light if it was my car (assuming that the dome light gives enough power to light the neons...should) if not. then run a relay off the dome light and get the constant power from somewhere else.

ok easiest way to have neon is to use some streetglow parts....you get one or two 12 inch tubes of the color you want along with a streetglow 3 input power box that plugs into you cigarette lighter then hide the wiring behind the panels in the dash and beneath your cd player ill add some pictures of mine later

I wired mine so that they can operate with a switch or ground through the the dome light ground that is closed only with doors open.

I would not recommend doing this because it might look tacky. You could tap into the cigarette light from behind the panel and wire a switch but again with the door problem. If you are unsure about how to wire electrical things you can probably get some information online, search here in Audio/Electrical, or study the instructions from whatever neon kit you buy. Just a tip, I found it easiest to run one hot, and then use the dome light ground and a separate switched ground. Kind of a no-brainer, but hey, who knows.
