I came across this focus central intake manifold for sale at a good price and was wondering if anybody knows if it will fit the cougar engine bay?

I emailed the seller and asked for the dimensions of it.

Just looking at it I don't think the figment should be too much of an issue I have seen one on a Zx2. I don't really know if it would be worth the performance gains either.

what are your opinions?

This is from focaljet
That manifold should only be used on SERIOUS engine builds; specifically super high power NA or hard-core FI applications. It flows way too much for streetable power (well, for most people). Even with the FR IIIs, the manifold probably flows more than the cams and head allow. If you must use that manifod, you'd better get an aftermarket cylinder head (and springs and retainers) and a race header for maximum power.

I use a ported Escort ZX2 intake manifold (very similar to the 2000-style Focus IM) on my car and it flows enough for the vast majority of people's builds. I have an FR head and FR stage II cams and my car should put down 150/145 at the wheels, but I haven't dyoned it, yet

in other words, unless your going all out on this engine and going FI then its not worth it. even then, i used a stock manifold on my turbo zetec and it flows plenty.

i've got one of the early 2000 focus manifolds for sale. as stated in the focaljet quote, it flows better than stock. plus it's probly a lot cheaper than that fc manifold. if u're interested let me know.

the reason im concidering this is because the guy is only asking 200 bucks for it. It shouldnt hurt performance having a manifold that can flow more then the engine needs.
I thought the manifolds in the 2.0 cougars were the same as the 2000 model focus ones.

too large a passageway will slow down the velocity of the air. does that mean less air will get into the combustion chamber? if so, that would be a downgrade in performance.

I saw that manifold last week on ebay go for like 100 or so. Personally, I'd keep the stocker as it can handle most any build. Also, it give you power thru out the RPM gauge. I remember discussing about this manifold somewhere & it was brought up that you lose power either down low (1000-3500) or high (5500-redline). Not sure which part of the band though, been awhile since the talk.

How are you going to build the motor, FI or NA? If you go FI, I'd get a metal manifold to hold the boost. For NA, I'd either go SVT or ITB manifold setup.

I want to eventually go with a turbo for it but that wont be for about another year after I get done with college but even then I only want to build for about 10psi tops. If i never had school to pay for I would be talking to turbo Zetec 'tour about his setup. I thought the SVT intake was pretty tough to make fit our cars cause of the multiple runner setup doesnt it have runners for low rpm and different ones for high rpm? what is the ITB setup? Its sounding like it wont really be worth it for me to buy it regardless.

the svt swap insn't as hard as u think. check out some of the focus boards like focaljet, focus fanatics, and i know there's some more out there. they all have a detailed write up on the swap and the parts you need. basicly it's a bolt on w/ an msd rpm switch that u wire in that controls the runner change. check those out for info on the svt manifold and all of the MANY discussions, debates, and arguments about which manifold is best. there is also a company called jay's racing that is in the prototype stage for an aluminum manifold for a focus. u can check them out too.

If all you're gonna boost is 10psi then the stock manifold will do.
I think they can withstand like up to 18 or 22psi.

ITBs are Individual Throttle Bodies. It gets rid of the manifold & intake pipe & places tb for each intake port & a big filter covers all of them. Kinda useless on our cars, plus its prolly more of a negative mod unless you have the Top Shop 'S hood' to feed it cold air. Otherwise, all it gets is the hot engine air.

thanks alot guys, I think that I will be passing on the manifold. read up on the svt swap when I have some free time too. once again thanks guys your input has been apriciated. I will put the money toward some lowering springs.

I would jump on the chance to purchase this manifold!!!!!!

I had this same one installed on my ZX2(click on my signature) I do agree you will lose a little bit of torque in the lower RPM's but, it was easily fixed by adjusting my cam gears.

With this manifold, I had SO MUCH MORE power in the high RPM's than the stock intake mani. Any stock manifold for the Zetec engine runs out of air aroun 6500 RPM's and I hated that!!!

I only suggest one thing, when you install this manifold, you will have to get some SCT tuning to raise your rev limiter. But don't go more then 8k RPM, our zetec oil pump begins to lose effiency after that.
