[The teen] scaled two six-foot fences and passed signs that said the restricted area was both off-limits and dangerous to visitors.

Well, there you have it...

you think he would have asked one of the operators to get the hat for him.

I wonder if the family will try to sue. Obviously the kid was not allowed to sale those 2 walls. I can see the family trying to say it shouldn't have been possible for him to get where he got.

i heard about this yesterday, its so sad, i couldnt imagine going somewhere with a friend to have fun and then they end up getting decapitated....or getting killed at all....best wishes to the family and the church on their recovery from their loss

Maybe they should change it from the Batman ride to the Highlander coaster. I have no sympathy for anyone hurt/killed by intentionally bypassing barriers put there for safety reasons. You don't take the safety off a gun and then look down the barrel.

I feel bad for the family, but they always post signs telling you to either not take hats, glasses.... with you or to hold on to them tight due to not being able to retrieve them if they fall off while on the ride, it's too bad something that terrible had to happen over a stupid hat.

My condolences to the family and his loved ones, but honestly, you can't fix stupid... if 2 6ft fences, signs saying stay out and the "wurr" of a roller coaster flying around a track right above you @ 50mph isn't enough to deter you... then stupid is as stupid does...

Ouchies... yeah this is America and someone will find some loophole and take it to court.

Funny story, my friend slapped the glasses off my face at a 6Flags in Chicago and they landed in the "no-go zone." But we waited till the park was closing to get them back. That happened in the middle of the day. he musta wanted that hat bad.

Dang, that's sad nonetheless. At first I was thinking it was the Six Flags across the street from me but I would've found out sooner if that were so.

I read several articles about this giving different stories...some said he was trying to get a hat, some said that he and another kid had left the park for lunch and were taking a shortcut back in and yet another said that he wanted to touch the people on the coaster. Whichever is true, I don't know but I do know that this kid's family has to suffer now because he was stupid.

NOW, if his family does sue Six Flags I'm going to be pi$$ed off big time. I don't see, with the info that I have, how anyone could say that the park is at fault. Americans have had so many things ruined because we can't be bothered by the little things like following safety procedures so companies have to build in several back up safeties.

Sue because the fences weren't high enough.
Sue because there was no razor wire.
Sue because the signs weren't written in eight languages.
Sue because Americans are litigious.
Lose because it was your kid's fault.

Oye. I heard about this on the radio this morning. Stupid move on the kid's part. I didn't read the article, but they said on the radio that he was either going after the hat or trying to touch the ride? Regardless, stupid move!!

It would just be easier to pay the family off (if) they sue, which we all know won't happen....:goofy::rofl: .....to avoid that much more public attention.

FYI if you do lose your hat/glasses/shoes/etc. They DON'T retrieve them. You're SOL. ;)

Well...that's a whole other story, I sure as hell am jumping a couple fences to get one of those back.

Maybe he was too short for the ride so he wore that to fool them:cool:

I don't think they'd win if they sued. Two 6-foot fences and warning signs, plus common sense, are more than reasonable warnings to just about anyone that would be serving on a jury. 6 Flags might settle with them just to save the hassle, which is unfortunate, but it's not quite the same thing.
