Ok for those of you who have seen my Mustang rebuild thread........ I am a little concerned. The guy who is rebuilding the car is a great and honest guy. He is a member of my Mustang club and all. He has done a GREAT job on my car so far. Anyway, here is my issue. He really hasn't been doing anything to it for about a month. Every Friday, he would send me updated pictures of what he has done and for those of you who have followed my thread, you know it was/is almost complete. He even turned it over and everything was fine. So now let's go back to the beginning of June. I had not heard from him in a couple of weeks, and I was getting ready to leave for a weeks vacation. I had some parts for him, (new headlights, battery and fan shroud) so I called him. He always answers when I call. This time he didn't and I left him a message. He didn't call back and it was getting late and I was leaving in the morning. I called again. He didn't answer so I left another message. Then I get a text message from him saying he was in the area and wanted to swing by and get the parts. I told him that was fine and he stopped by. He acted like normal. I get back from vacation and two weeks go by and I have not heard anything from him, so I send him an email. He tells me he is really sorry, but he has been really busy at work, he was watching his gf's house while she was on vacation, etc. That has been two weeks ago and I still have not heard anything..................Should I be worried? :ugh:

I think you'll be alright Shelly. A little down-time should be expected because things pop up out of nowhere. I mean, he's already dumped a ton of time into it, and he has been progressing very fast, so I wouldn't be worried yet.
What exactly are you worried about?

I am not sure what I am worried about. He was VERY responsive at first and now I really haven't heard anything from him. I have not seen the car in person since he picked it up over 4 months ago. It has only been in pictures. I guess I am worried that something went wrong with it and he is afraid to tell me. Getting the text from him was very weird, because he had never communicated like that with me before.

I wouldn't be too worried at this point. With rebuilds, stuff like this is gonna happen. Just give him a shout, and ask him when he thinks that stuff will get installed by, and just go from there. If it continues too much longer, then I would start saying something to him.

I'd go see the car to clear your nerves.

That is a good idea. I do need to pick up the front two wheels to have new tires installed. They never popped, melted or lost air, but the fact that I had to pry the melted rain guard off the tire on the driver's side makes me think I shouldn't drive on it. :ugh:

Ok, I called him and had to leave him another message. I just told him I wanted to get the rims so I could get new tires. The car is NOT at his house, it is at another members parent's garage. I know where it is, I have just never been there.

At this point, he has not given me a real update on the car since the middle of May. :(

hold up.... it's not at a shap, but at a friend's parent's house?
that's very odd to me.

Yes, it is, but it is a 4 car garage and the guy knows what he is doing. He has all the right tools. He has done SEVERAL 4 to V8 conversions and has worked on several members cars. He is a very reputable guy from what I am told.

shelly, i have been in similar situations and i just over thought them. give the guy time, if he is watching his girls place she might be gone for 2 weeks vacation or something. The fact that he has gone and done as much work as he has i doubt he is looking to scam you at this point in time. Summer is hard to work on extra projects because of vacations and such, give him a day to respond, if not just call him and actually tell him you are just concerned becuase of the lack of communication from what you guys use to have. He will probably be understanding and explain any situation to you.

That is probably what I will do. I am not really worried about him scamming me. He seems like a great guy. I am worried that something went wrong and he is afraid to tell me. :(

I'm sure you're aware that a restore like he's doing isn't like how they show on TV. It doesn't happen in a week and all the bolts don't always come off easily. Some downtime is to be expect as other people might pop in & need work here & there.
My car sat in a body shop from February till June for what should've been a one month job. Sometimes when I was supposed to go up to help work on it he would cancel at the last minute several weeks in a row. Sometimes the car didn't get touched for a month.

I am fully aware of that. The reason why I am so worried, is because the last time I talked to him, the only things that needed to be installed were the headlights, new battery and radiator. My big concern is that it did NOT start for one reason or another and he can't figure out what the problem is. He did turn it over before, but never actually started it.
I will wait to see if he calls today. I told him on the message that I wanted to swing by whenever it was ok to pick up my front tires and rims.

Well, I talked to the guy who is rebuilding my Mustang and I feel MUCH better. He has just been really busy. He started the car and it fired right up……..no problems. He said now he just needs to put the seats back in, the shifter and some other things and it will be done. Get this. He is only charging me $10/hr to do the work. Of course I bought all the parts and things and paid the people who own the garage $200 for storage and electricity use………………here is the kicker. He says he only has about 50 hours in the car. For those of you that are math impaired, that is a total of $500 in labor!!!!!! THAT IS IT!!! I plan on giving him about $2K for his efforts, I think that is only fair. There is NO way in hell he only has 50 hours in that car.

Oh shut up George :disgust::rofl:
I feel your pain Shelly. My car has been at the shop since the first week of march and its still not finished. He has been updating me with pictures and such but the past 3 weeks, update has trickled to nothing. After several phone calls, he tells me that he is swamped with other install and he didnt have time to get back to me. So, hopefully, its a same situation where he has other priorities which might put you on a back burner a bit... but since you know where the car is, everything should be fine.
(i know that waiting sucks tho. :()

It sucks even worse when it is a nice day out for cruising, or when all the ladies head to the track to race and I just have to be on the pit crew. :(

Why not go see it anyway? Unless it's terribly far away I think I'd be going over there every week or two to check progress on such a long build.

I am going over there on Saturday to pick up the two front rims and tires to get the new ones. I am pretty excited since I haven't seen it in person since Feb.

He is in a local club here in Cincinnati. He is a great guy. He has just been slammed this summer. I feel much better about my car now.
Oh, and I didn't know you had a notch.
My man has a notch too.

Yeah, I have a 91 Notch, 90 Hatch and a 88 Notch (Parts cars). But the 91 is the only one that is running right now. The Hatch has been up on a rotisserie for a couple years. I don't know if I'll ever have the time to finish it.
