What size is that intercooler? 26" x 3.5"? Is that going to flow enough for a 3L turboed car?

is that the NPG stage 2 kit?
Yes, well the one that comes with some upgraded pieces such as I/C etc...
I guess Stage 1 would be the kit w/o intercooler - 210/240whp
Stage 2 would be the Standard Kit w/intercooler - 275/300/whp
And Stage 3 would be the one with upgraded pieces - 300/350whp
In my case its the third one.

The intercooler flows 13 psi which is about 350whp+ flowing over 50lbs/min into the motor measured at the UIM so the intercooler will support over 350whp the intercooler can flow over 15 psi ask my last motor that snapped the rod. Now if you went with a built motor and plan on making more than 13 psi then I would say you will need my top to bottom feed intercooler. Big intercooler that are to big for the applications are just waste of money and add more lag time an spool time. And ask Brapple his IAT sensor were under 100 degrees at 7psi plus I never saw over 105 degrees over 10 psi yet on the stock 3 liter turbo cars. BADsvt put down 310whp with 7.25 psi and running 10.5 A/F when he was untuned so 10 psi will be 350whp with hardly ay effort on the stock 3 liters. Joey

Hmmmmmm. I need to measure my intercooler then to see if it can handle things once I upgrade to the Walbro fuel pump. Shame to let my built motor get bored with 8 psi.
Joey, I overhauled my cooling system today. Once I overhaul the suspension this weekend, it's tuning time again. Getting things done on the daily driver goes much faster when one is unemployed. :goofy:

I didn't look that closely at the IAT numbers but from what I recall they where pretty good. using an infered thermometer I haven't seen the intercooler get much over 90 degrees after running the car. Only time I saw 120 degrees was after driving and parking the car for 15 minutes or so then taking off again.

Do you guys have any boost controller ?
Was looking at them and those electronic boost controllers are so pricey..just too much for what I will have. I dont need that many features..
Any in-car/switch manual boost controller available somewhere ?

yeah I have a hallman evolution rx mbc with the in car control. still need to set that up. otherwise you can find instructions on how to make your own mbc and then you can buy a 2 stage boost controller that is set with a switch inside the car.

Shopping one since a couple of weeks. Cant decide which one I take.
But once the car will be running then a 3" will be installed for sure.

Im about to buy the Greddy Profec B spec II EBC.
My question is.. No danger to raise boost on a stock 3.0L engine ?
Read that 10psi should be safe but I dont want something bad to happen..
What do you think ?

That EBC is ****ing MONEY! You will not be disappointed. I dont see any major issues with solid 10psi HOWEVER make sure its tuned or you will be looking at some major issues.

Test in discrete increments. Start with something you know is safe and log it. If the log looks good (i.e. A/F not too lean, MAF not pegged, injectors not maxed) then bump it up a couple psi and log your run. If at any time you hear pinging/knocking, take your foot off the gas and then trim back the boost. Otherwise, repeat the procedure until the log indicates you are close to maxing out injectors, MAF, etc.

its not that bad .. its 300$. I think its the best value/quality.

BTW, we need to go head to head before the new owner takes possession of the Mavro Gato.

So what is your wastegate spring rated to be? Dan and I were talking about doing a four-way shootout with our four cars representing the ADC Kit, BlackCoog Kit, FastCougar "Kit" and Nautilus Kit. But for that to work, we should all run about the same boost. But then again, Kevin's car is already under the knife, so it might be too late for that.
FastCougar
07-23-2008, 09:53 PM
Since when is it too late to "turn up the boost"? Like you pointed out, it's a point of your base spring in the wastegate as that will determine your PSI range. I have the 12 psi spring, so the least amount of boost my car will ever see around 11 - 11.5 psi due to cracking point of the spring being about .5 psi lower than the spring rating.

The car we dynoed this week had a 3" exhaust made great power also I made over 400whp with the same setup. I will tell you this I am starting to lean a little towards the fact the catback is making some big difference because Badsvt only made 309whp at 8.5 psi but he was running rich but I am not sure it makes that it makes 50whp difference in the A/F but surely a big 3" catback can surely make some difference though. I would do nothing less then 3" catback on a turbo car for big power.

Any "restrictive" exhaust, could be detached for the dyno. Would you recommend that somebody with a 2.5" exhaust remove it for dyno tuning?

i would think that that would mess up the tune for driveability. you dont drive with it off so it would be off a bit. pull it off for power only pulls sure, but not for a tune.
this is just my thoughts, i have no actual information to prove this
