Well, when I bought the car, the side marker was missing. I didn't think it lit up so I didn't see it as a big deal. I've learned otherwise and since I have a state inspection coming up soon I was wondering how I install a new one. I thought it was straightforward, but I stuck my finger in the gap and I didn't feel any wires at all . I've searched, but all of the threads I find talk about changing the colors.

the wire is probably hanging behind the fender with teh bulb still on it. I know when i had z3 fenders on my car the guy who put them on just taped it inside the fender. But other then the wire being inside the fender the side marker should just pop right in.

Are you sure they need to be operable in order to pass inspection? I wouldn't think they would be, most cars do not have side marker lights. I would just pop the sidemarker back in unplugged.

I'm pretty sure every light present on the car has to be operational. They hunt for anything they can to get money out of you. I found the wire with the help of a flashlight, but it doesn't have a bulb attached. What type of bulb do I have to buy?

Does anyone understand how to reinstall these? I've tried to pop it back into place but it won't hold. Is there a solution outside of just gluing the damn thing on?

tried to pop back what exactly? the sidemarker? it should slide in on one side and click on on the other side, just replaced mine today, one of them was a little loose compared to how tight the OEM ones were, but it clicks in enough to hold itself in place...

THIS is a true story. You can have all the pretty little lights you want on your vehicle BUT they must ALL work at all times.
I have been duly informed by several police officers.

Why would they hunt to get money out of you? Its not like you pay every time you have your car inspected.

Here we pay $15.00. A lot of shops, if you're not familiar with them, jump at the opportunity to find something wrong with your car so that they can reject it in hopes you'll let them 'fix' the problem for you. I know several people who have been scammed by shops, usually claiming they need brake work done.
