Hey everyone,

I finally got my alternator out of the car, but I need to take the pulley off. What is the best way to keep the pulley from spinning? I noticed a slot in the case that I could fit a screwdriver in and wedge it into the fan, but I don't really think that is the smartest thing to do. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you in advance,
Tim

P.S. - I did a search on this but didn't really come up with anything.

Put an old belt around it and pinch it tight with vicegrips or in a vice, then hit the bolt with an impact gun.

one of those craftsman strap wrenches will work well also ...

Craftsman 2 pc. Strap Wrench Set - Model 45570 at Sears.com (http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00945570000P)

Thank you wadespencer99, I will give that a shot tonight, if that doesn't work, I will stop by sears and get one of those wrenches. Thank you brapple for the link.

Strap wrench if you have hand-tools, or the belt itself. A simple rap with the impact gun will work as well, even without the strap wrench.
