The race is on to get the car finished for Fest. Last year I went all cosmetic, this year I'm going all performance.

I picked up a really nice 3L a few months ago. I just haven't had the time to do the swap until now. I've been doing little things here and there when I had the time. But the time has come to really get down to business. The plan is to do a double motor swap and upgrade a few parts along the way.

This thread is to track my progress. I'll post pictures as much as I can.

Here is what's going into my car:

Motor:

'02 Ford Taurus 3.0L Duratec' Ported & matched heads, Clevite rod bearings, new rod bolts & head bolts, New gaskets, 5L8Z-oil pan revision, SVT Contour LIM & 19lb injectors, SVT Max Extrude-Honed UIM, Ported & optimixed 65mm TB, 3" intake with Stock MAF, Oil catch-can, removed EGR, MSDS Xtreme coated shorty headers, Tru-Bendz Y-pipe, Tru-Bendz 2.5" tubing with Borla center muffler, Magnaflow rear resonators and tips, SVT Radiator

Trans:

Rebuilt by Terry Haines, fitted with new shift forks,
Quife ATB Differential
Spec Stage 3+ clutch

Suspension: Rear Complete

Bilstien Struts, H&R Springs, SVT Front Swaybar- powdercoated red, Energy Suspension front swaybar bushings, 21mm BAT Rear Swaybar, Energy Suspension rear swaybar mounts, Welded and boxed rear subframe, Energy Suspension bushings in rear lateral links, Custom-boxed rear control arms, Custom double-adjustable rear toe arms, Mirko rear strut tower brace, Freedom design front bar.

Wheels and Tires Complete

Rota SDR wheels- steel gray, 17x7.5", 16.5lbs, BFGoodrich KDW 225/45-ZR17

Nautilus Brake Upgrade:

Front: 300mm FSVT rotors
Rear: 278mm Rotors

I tried to get one last year but I was too late. I just want to get it back together and put a few miles on it before I drive all the way to Fest. ;)

Nice! I think Mike's cougar will beat ya though... (at least with me driving it!)

Just kidding, man... looks good. Comparable setup. What are you going to do for tuning? Let me know if you have any questions or need any help.

When you're done, you can run the current ride... It's only 2 liters though, so you have an advantage.

I have a ADC chip for it. I just don't know if my ECU has the same code as the one it was in before. I have to check before i put it in. If it doesn't i might have to swap ECU's. Do you think i will have any problems with PATS? Or the fact that it came out of a U.S. car.

As for Mikes car, i guess we will find out when we go to the track. ;)

Massiv
06-19-2008, 07:44 PM
You may have some issues there with the ADC chip. I think so long as you have the same base code, you should be OK. So long as you don't swap your ECU, you shouldn't have a problem with PATS. If your ADC chip is for a diff code, it probably won't be THAT hard to track down an ECU with that code, and THEN you will have to do that PATS stuff (with dealer perhaps)

mmmm, 'Spec'tacular.

I took a pic next to a spec clutch I have for the Mustang. It looks so tiny next to the other one.

It has about 20K on it.

So, here is the difference between a stock rad and a SVT Rad.

I swapped over the valve cover. They look really nice under the black UIM.

So it's in and running.

Only problem I had was the SCT Chip didn't work. It wouldn't start with the chip in. Lots of spark but no Fuel. I took it out and it started right up. It ran fine on the stock tune but I need to get the chip working. I might try swapping PCMs and see if that works.

But I still can't drive it. I went to put on the new SS brake lines. I broke both front Bleeder screws off. So now I need two new front calipers. :(

So it runs but I can't drive it until I fix the brakes.

well if your stick with stock calipers why not steal the ones of f the black coug so you atleast have the red one going and get it done sooner and have the black one back together afterwards?

I thought about that but if I buy new ones I want them on the red car. Plus I would have to bleed the brakes on the black car if I did that. :(

I'd love a set, but I don't have $1300 burning a hole in my pocket.

There's actually a group buy going on right now at CEG for the Baer kit. I think its around $800 or so. That's a little more reasonable... but I like the TCE kit alot better.

Congrats on getting it done. Now break it in so there's no surprises for the drive down to Indy.

I got the chip to work. I tried swapping PCMs but the pats wouldn't work. Then i took both apart to see it the Jumper 3 needed to be soldered but It looked the same. So when i had it apart I took a razor blade to the connector and scraped them down till I saw metal. Plugged it back in and it worked. It must of been a bad connection.

That's the plan. I wanted at least a couple weeks driving it to work out any bugs. I still have a few lose ends to clean up. i have to swap rear strut bars, hook up the gauges and reinstall the Roush Kit.

Are you taking out the ST200 bar and putting in the Mirko...? Dan finally found the rear bar that should've come with my car. I just gotta meet him to pick it up... hopefully before Fest.

If you need a hand with the kit, i've become quite the expert at installing them.

Okay now I have a problem. It's overheating. I think the fans aren't kicking in. It seems fine when I'm driving but as soon as I stop the temperature starts creeping up. it's dark outside so i'll have to look at it tomorrow. Any ideas, It was running fine for the past two weeks.

No way. Not now. :(

Is it maybe the thermostat? I think I have a spare...

Remember when we picked the car up, the fans wouldn't turn off. Maybe it's something to do with that...?
