I bought a 2000 cougar yesterday for my wife. I have some questions about the cougars. So far I really like it. It has some problems though, the sunroof, and power windows don't work. I think I have the windows figured out. I think it is the switches. I know about the sunroof, but don't know where to get the parts.

One problem that is bugging me right now though is the HVAC fan speed switch. It only works on high. The guy I bought it from said it is a relay, I am not buying that though. Relays are on or off that is it...usually. Is this a common problem I searched and didn't find anything.

what fluids do you guys recommend, I have a V6 and MTX, I want to change the oil and the trans axle fluid. what do you recommend.

and lastly, is there a place where I can find a list of the first basic mods to make. I know its the same with most all cars. Intake, and exhaust. Start with a cat back and a K&N, but other than that. Is there a bigger throttle body I can get? should I bore this one out?

I look foreword to being here a lot the next couple months.

one thing as far as the throttle body that most of the guys are doing, and i plan to do, is to go with the SVT parts

do a search for SVT lite upgrade, i remember there is a forum showing exactly what parts correspond to each upgrade level.

and welcome to the addiction btw

welcome :) and i can tell you right now that if you want to fix the sunroof be prepared to spend some money to do it, you just have to ask yourself, do i really want the sunroof that bad? the one on mine didnt work when i got it either, i just got them to seal it down....i personally dont care for sunroofs anyways....so paying hundreds of dollars to get it fixed really wasnt worth it for me....but thats just my opinion. and check out the 2.5 Duratec Performance section for your engine mods
2.5L DURATEC Performance - NECO Forums (http://www.newcougar.org/forums/2-5l-duratec-performance/)
you will find anything and everything you want to know about that motor in there

Check the Problems FAQ, stickied at tthe top of the Problems forum.

The heater fan is indeed a bad relay. There is a how-to for fixing that yourself.

Read the 2.5 Performance sticky thread at the top of the Duratec forum.

Enjoy.

what oil do the cougars like, mostly what weight oil? and most importantly, what kind of trans fluid does the MTX take?

99-00 calls for 5W-30; 01-02 calls for 5W-20.

The best manual transaxle fluid I've found is Royal Purple SynchroMax.

the royal purple you do not need to use the ford friction modifier in the mtx. little more expensive but worth it. try and run synthetic for the motor oil
