I need a little help with my subs and amp installation. I want a professional job but not pay too much. I used to have three tens an amp and capasitor. My altenator went out and I am sure it was due to my installation. What are some good guidelines I can follow. ex. wiring, amps, capasitor.

just make sure you dont have your power wire in a bind to cause a short, and make sure you have a good source for ground wire.

use good wires that are thick enough to do the job, make sure all connections are tight. make sure the amplifier(s) cant draw more amps then the alternator puts out. you really don't need a capacitor. all they are is a band-aid for a weak electrical system.

the "big 3" wire upgrade is a very good idea too. (thicker wires through your charging system)

i dont think your alternator going out had anything to do with your install.
our alt can only handle up to 130 amps... If your system was demanding more than this, than that is your problem.

Also keep in mind that from that 130 amps, some of it has to go to the electrical system of the car... which means less juice for your stereo system.

Oh, and say NO to caps. (just put it on ebay and get some of your money back.)

The capasitor did help I think. Because earlier I never had one and my lights would beat with the music. Then I installed one and it stoped. Where is the best ground in the trunk. I currently have it on a ground for the lights in the rear. Thanks fellas

just use a spare battery instead of a cap. and run the battery in series. but do the alt mod to play it safe

The battery or bare metal I would not reuse a factory grounding bolt, try keeping the ground to under 3 ft if possible. Just be careful not to screw into anything electrical or the gas tank if you screw it to the chasis.

Yeah get rid of the cap asap, add another battery in the back(hehe i have 6), do the Big 3 upgrade, run true 1/0 gauge(dont go cheap) from the front battery to the rear one, if all that still doesnt solve your prob then you must be running some serious power and go grab you a HO alternator, im running a Iraggi 240 and i love it cant go wrong with him also biggest you can get for a cougar from wat i seen thats reasonable
