I'm doing a group buy on shift & brake boots, and I want to be sure each customer gets a perfect fit.

I know there's a difference between the early model consoles (i.e. cup spiller) and the late model consoles (i.e. cup holder).

Were both consoles available both with and without an armrest? Does anybody have pics of the hand brake on the different consoles?

actually, i am trying to figure out if the pre 01 consoles came both with and without armrests.

i am also trying to figure out if the post 01 consoles came both with and without armrests.

the 99-00s came both with and without (plus the 2000 special ed 2001-ish style console).

My 99 Spiller came with arm rest. But my current 00 Holder has no armrest. I believe all years had the option of arm rest or not. Though recently changing my console, i noticed i couldnt use my old E-brake boot. But the shift boot works fine.

Yes, the base model (4cyl 5spd) 01 Cougar came with a no arm rest and actual cup holder.

Between the Cougar 1 and Cougar 2 there were 5 different center consoles:

99-00 Both were charcoal/gray in color.
(1) Non arm rest Console with actual cup holder
(2) Non arm rest console with cup "spiller" - (Found on V6 non sport model)
(3) Console with arm rest (cloth and leather) with cup "spiller"

01-02 Both were black in color
(4) Non arm rest console with actual cup holder
(5) Console with arm rest and acutal cup holder

Actually, I have a 99 with no arm rest and a cup spiller.
On a sidenote, I have a 2.5 with high back buckets instead of adjustable headrest. Is that weird? I've read that the high backs were on the 4cyl.

Looks like every option was possible...

99/00 gray cupspiller no armrest
99/00 gray cupspiller armrest *
99/00 gray cupholder no armrest *
99/00 gray cupholder armrest

01/02 black cupholder no armrest
01/02 black cupholder armrest *

I put an asterisk next to the ones that are in cars I own if you still need photos. Let me know.

they were on all the non-sport package cougars. mine originally had the high back buckets, and no arm-rest with real cup holders

yep, looks like every possible combination.

As Edward mentions, the ebrake boots differ between the consoles with armrests and the consoles without armrests, but i wonder if they differ at all between the early and late models. can anybody post pics of old brake boots along with console year and description?

the only ones that might be different, but i doubt it, is the euro edition cougs that came with the pen holders

My 2000 originally came with a cloth armrest and a cupspiller. My sisters 1999 4-cylinder non-sport has no armrest but a sudo-cupholder in place of the armrest and a cup spiller.

I swapped my console for a 2001 black vinyl armrest and dual armrest console. (2 compartments)

I'm just curious, i have a 2002 with no armrest. Now is it possible for me to just buy an armrest and bolt it on? My arm misses the spot it once rested on...that and i would like more places to put things. Anyone do this before?

*Edit, if anyone happened to have pics of their armrest open so i could get a good look at what i'd have to do that would be awesome, thanks

Lunar Limelight tells me that the 01 armrest is not the same dimensions as the 99 armrest. Can anyone confirm that all 01 armrests are this size?

I measured mine which is 16" x 7.5"

I tried streatching the cover as far as possible and this is what I got....

Also, SkorpioLT needs to know whether the 01 brake boot w/o armrest is the same as the 99 brake boot w/o armrest. Can anyone confirm?

well before on my '99 I had the cupspiller and an armrest, and i switched it to an 01-02 style that has the cupholder but no armrest...

Looks like every option was possible...

99/00 gray cupspiller no armrest
99/00 gray cupspiller armrest *
99/00 gray cupholder no armrest *
99/00 gray cupholder armrest

01/02 black cupholder no armrest
01/02 black cupholder armrest *

how would these be different exactly?:

99/00 gray cupholder with/without armrest
and
01/02 black cupholder with/without armrest

is it just the color or are they actually different styles? cause that would most likely mean that there are 3 types of different boots.... you should actually be able to tell whether there are 3 different boots or not, because you owned one of each type not considering whether they had the armrest or not, cause i still think the armrest plays no role in what the ebrake boot looks like...

Well my ebrake boot was difficult to put on & I have a 00 no rest with cupholder. I managed to get the boot on the frame, but I'd say maybe like 1/4th of an inch of material would've made it a LOT easier. It was like the boot was made to fit on the inside of frame & not outside of it.

I believe the early 01-02 style ones did not have the pop out ebrake boot frame piece, but would be plastic welded on like the cupspiller ones. Otherwise, they are the same style, colors, etc as the 01-02s

Mine is a pop out boot. Differences could be slightly different ebrake boot sizes.

I wonder if there is a difference in measurements between the Euro & US consoles.

there also should be a production date stamp on the underside (the two clock dial style ones) - and unless it's been removed a paper sticker on the top side of the ash tray cubby with typed out production info.

SkorpioLT

so the ones that dont pop out are different from the ones that do? cause my 99 one was welded on i had to break its frame to get it off but the holders on the console were still intact... and when i got the new boot which was supppse to be for my new console looked exacty like the one from my 99 console and im sure i couldve put it on there no problem... my point is that whether its welded on or not it still could be the same boot.... pix would help out bigtime guys

I have a 01/02 with a pop out e-brake. But mine has a 2 compartment armrest with a pen holder. (is it euro then?)

Were all of the center consoles made out of the same cheap plastic?

I have an '02 with dual armrest and cupholder and it creaks and bends like crazy if I lean on it at all.

I am definately interested in replacing it if a new one would be built sturdier and not feel like 50 cent toy piece from an early 90's geo metro.

it bends/creaks because you've broken the plastic base where it screws into the metal below. If you remove it, you can patch the plastic with fiberglass to make it more stable.

^^^ Yeah, that happened to mine, so I bought a used console off another member. Reinforcing the base is a good idea.
