For switching over to the svt cams, you have to change the pulleys over from the 2.5 engine.
When you do this, what do you do about the crank, are the chains still gonna line up with the 3l crank pulley ?

Do you mean the gears?
The gears stay on the SVT cams... take the chains from the 2.5L that match those cams, and take the 2.5L gear from the crankshaft and transfer all of that over to the 3L... The 3L timing equipment has a different number of links and size is different too... you'll see when you take the timing cover off.

:ugh:
Make sure it's timed correctly. It is very easy to bend a valve when swapping to a different set of cams.

if your 3L has low mileage it is OK to use 3L tensioner and guides.

if you are using 3L cams then use the 3L timing equipment, don't mix the timing parts between the 2.5l and the 3L

He is swapping over to SVT cams so he cannot use the 3L timing equipment.

You can use 3L chain guides and tensioners with SVT cams and 2.5L chains. Do not mix 2.5L tensioners with 3L guides, or vice versa.

I used SVT cams with my 2.5 chains and 3L guides and tensioners, everything works fine

Correct. I do this with all the 3L swaps I have done.
3l tensioners and guides are much newer and in great shape, so might as well hold onto them! Just make sure timing CHAINS and GEARS match the CAMS.

FYI I just swapped in a set of SVT cams this weekend and compared the 2.5L and the 3L chain guides. They are different I would not recommend using the 3L guides. The guides for the 3L chains are smaller for the smaller chains. I have no doubt they will work in a pinch but keep in mind they are different and the 3L guides are a little too small for the 2.5L cams.
