i'm picking up a cougar and i'm new to them. not sure if this has been discussed or not? i plan on dropping my friends svt engine in. i'm assuming the wiring harness' are the same between the cougar and contour

ya every thing is the same as long as the svt contour engine your putting in the cougar has the same fuel type so you dont have to get a new wiring harness and you can just use the one off the cougar engine

sorry,i worded my question kinda wrong. i'm more interested in knowing if the svt ecu will work in a 99 cougar.

there is more to it than just the fuel system type...read this (http://www.newcougar.org/forums/2-5l-duratec-performance/96851-svt-ecu-information.html)

needs to be the same year, engine, transmission and fuel sytem for it to work.

cougars never used PATs 1 I believe its called. They you the PATs 4 which is the one that requires 2 keys to program yourself. So you can not use a RJL1 SVT PCM in a cougar at all ....

instead of an svt ecu you could just get a tune for it

You still have to get the Cougar keys programed for the new ECU so it won't be free unless you can do that on your own or bypass the pats.

if he has the keys all you need to do is swap the chip in the key or program them yourself if you have two keys.
