ok well i'm getting a valve cover powder coated by blu_fuz. there is a rubber grommet/seal on the left hand side of the cover (side nearest the cam sprockets) that has some kind of sensor going into it. it is in the valley where the plugs are. i think that it's something to do w/ the vct cuz only the cougars, contours, and zx2s have this sensor. fuz tried and couldn't get the piece out w/out damaging it so i've been trying to find a replacement in case it get's f*ed during coating. i called teamford and the guy i talked to said it was a "timing sensor rocker cover seal." i'm just checking if anyone here knows what this is called or if there's a way to get it out without breaking it. here's the best pic i could find online of what this is. i circled the part in blue.

That would be your VCT Solenoid.

I tried to remove that seal on my valve cover and I ended up breaking it. Let me know if you find a replacement. I just patched mine with RTV, but it does leak oil very slowly.

BTW, whose car is that in the pic. Afterhours?

ok well i think i found out what it is. after some discussions with a bunch of parts and service guys we've concluded that it it the timing sensor. we found a part at a local dealer and they ordered it so i'm going to pick it up monday to see if that is in fact the right part.

problem solved. as stated before, i ordered the seal and turns out it was the right one. now i got my pretty new chrome powder coated valve cover on. i snapped a few before/after pics but haven't got them off the camera yet. i'll post up my final product tomorrow.
