I've used aquarium grade silicone as it was the highest temp clear stuff I could find, which by the way smells like Satans jockstrap. It's good to 140* and I'm sure the headlights don't get that hot even sitting in the sun. Tho a hot engine....I wasn't sure about.
But instead of mounting them on the outside I tucked them behind the lamp opening so there wouldn't be any sign of wires or glues. Hopefully the headlights don't get hot enough to cause them to shift. I may just back them up with some JB Weld brackets.
Kinda blurry, but I'm so dizzy from the fumes.
looks great!.
one of mine has shifted... and you can see the silicone trail. :(

Are you serious? That sucks! :( I looked at some of my first one and everything is running good. How are the clear corners holding up?

Did yours pull away because of excessive heat or not enough silicone?
The hottest I've seen it get here is 104* in the direct sun last year. And on days like that I try not to drive. The hottest my engine bay got (before headers) was ~230* and I'mnot sure what effect that would have on the headlights. But with the Kam hood I got I also made it functional, so that hopefully alleviates the heat somewhat.

i noticed that it actually started to pull away when i got the car at the port in Italy, so it started before summer. Since then, it went through one full summer with it not getting worse. And we do have a pretty intense summer here so thats a good sign.

Hmm...gives me hope then. I'd hate to use the JB Weld because it causes nasty effects with the paint and plastic in an enclosed and hot area.

Buttoned them up. Gotta buff them again cause my hands were dirty so they're not too clear. And matte black is a BEOTCH to keep clean. You so much as seriously breath on it and there's a mark. Had I known I would've seriously worn cotton gloves while handling it.
I hate how once you take the lights apart they'll never go back together flush like before. But the install looks clean so I'll take what I can get.

The car's going to have this weird look where everything on the exterior is just black & blue. As if you just took a photo and removed all the color except the body.

Well, I hook them up today and I gotta say this should be the standard on installing them. I've had one hot day where these sat in the sun, but this weekend will be the real test as it's going to be in the 90's for a few days straight and I'll be doing some driving.
As far as bumps go, the silicone is holding up great and is dampening the shock. And with them behind the inserts the light is still very bright and now "fades" out to a nice sliver behind the insert. I'll get a photo tomorrow.

Soon. These are holding up perfectly fine btw. No apparent shifting or melting.
Unfortunately I gotta open one up to see what's wrong with one ring. It was working fine (I assume) the week they were in before I hooked them up. Then after about a day of driving one halo no longer lights. The other one on the same line is working as are the other two. So hopefully it's just a problem in the little resistor box and not a cracked ring already.

Here's a crappy HDR attempt I was screwing with. Including unwaxed goodness and old wheels.
