I would like your opinions because I trust them.

wtf... are flat / matte colors the new trend or something? (yes i know they've been around for decades)
Altezza tail lights --> Lambo doors --> carbon fiber WRAPPED parts --> flat/matte paint jobs... ?

They're popular with the old lead sled Merc's and tub cars. It's obviously making a comeback (matte colors actually) but only looks good on certain cars.
I don't think our car has the lines to pull off a full matte paintjob. The curves and angles are too subtle and it would come off as looking like it's just in primer.
AZBobby's car is a good example of how it would look.

Easier to clean, yes. But the bodywork needs to be perfectly straight or you'll notice weird shadows.
i vote for white.
its the "in" color this show season.

How about green like you have now, but in a metallic so dark that it looks black until light hits it? ;)

AzBobby's car is a spray can hand job also, isn't it? Flat black looks good if done right. Satin black isn't bad either but it's not something I would do on my car.

Mine's white and I love it. Thinking about adding a flat black racing stripe though. I just did a search and couldn't find it but I KNOW I've seen a flat black Cougar somewhere on the web. Didn't dig it at all. I'll search some more and if I find it I'll post back.

Thats bad ass!!!!
My boyfriends father works at a ford dealership he does auto body over there so a new paint job wont be so much Just gotta pay for the paint. I mean I was thinking a nice white with silver stars goin up the sides. Call it gay but i have a passion for stars got two ets of tattoos with stars. but the again my fav. colors are blackand purple. Its complicated because I dont want to do something and not like it on the car.

Well, theres a photoshop section ;) You could post a picture of your car and some examples or rough drawings of what you are thinking of, and one of the experts could try to make it look like it was really on the car, then you would have a pretty good idea ;)

Yeah its a spray can job, I never have time to take my time and do it right so it looks pretty crappy. This fall I'm going to have a satin black job done, then maybe next spring add in Sonic Blue to make it into some sort of two-tone scheme.

Ya im sick at photoshop I should try that.....
Its complicated....
Or is it even worth it with 103,000 miles on it?

Well, I'm saying that Bobby's gives you an idea of what a flat color would look like on our car. Just look at the image in his sig, you lose all the body lines. That vette up there has nice, sharp sweeping curves and intersecting angles.
Ldycgr99
05-29-2008, 07:14 PM
Thats true. the vette looks like the bat mobile hahaha
But Ill def do a color then thanks guys!

I just had my cars body completely worked over. All the dings & scratches worked out and a fresh coat of paint (same color) over everything. And I'm sitting at 110k.

Why mot mixing both idea and paint it flat white.
No seriously I don't beleive in flat black making cars look good, especially the cougar. As opposed to your boyfriend, I think it would look much better shinny black. I think our car just look better with shinny colors, so between both of your choice, I would choose white. It's one of those color that always look good, whatever the car is.

I take exception to that... ;)
and flat black won't work on the Cougar, like others have said...
I think Blustreak's SC car that used to be Stangkiller's is flat black...

Satin black like that corvette on a cougar would look good. Just gotta do the right scheme. I have the perfect scheme in mind but will not be done on this cougar but another.

I will try to find pictures online of it, but a friend of mine had a 2000 Celica that was white, and did orange vinyl stars starting at the front wheel well, and going all the way to the rear deck/spoiler area, getting progressively smaller like it was going to a point of perspective. Also had an orange strip up the hood between the hood's body line, and an orange trimmed Momo shifter. and orange guages and an orange Autometer Tach.
She traded it in for a Mommy-Mobile. the dealer took the stars off immediately.

Go with the white and silver stars idea. I love white Cougars.
Leave flat black to the old hot rods.
I've never heard of it as being easy to maintain.

I'd like to think I have an eye for certain styles and colors that work well together... I use to be a very good artist before I got into the working-man's world, so now I just transfer that into cars...
Go for it, man! seriously that would be killer.

Let me tell you something I've learned having now picked up my finished car. Flat colors are going to be a PITA to maintain on a daily driver. Keep it to as little as possible.

i agree with the majority of whats being said
flat/matte/satin black only looks good if done right and on the right car
i think it COULD look good on the cougar with the right body kit, hood, wing, etc. but it also has to be done well...
heres an example of a nicely done satin black, enjoy
