Now that we're allowed to go elsewhere for coverage I wondered if anyone switched over yet? I think almost all of us are under Commerce/Heritage and I just got a quote from Progressive which seemed pretty good.

Currently I'm paying ~$1,200 for basic coverage with a $500 deductible. Progressive quoted me $660 with a $300 deductible and it includes my aftermarket parts. But it gave me a 6 month quote for some reason and my current payment is stretched over 9 months.

Anyone switch or do any of you out of staters have stories about Progressive?

IIRC, an ex had them and they have ZERO tolerance for late payments and cancel your insurance without notifying you.

 I've always had State Farm, even when I lived in Massachusetts. (I'm sneaky like that.)

do you mean in mass they used to force you to only have insurance from one carrier? no choice?

Sorta. The pricing was regulated so there was no competition. So we'd see commercials for Progressive, State Farm and Gieco all the time but you couldn't use them. Starting in April they allowed other in.

Those ads always ended in "Not available in Massachusetts or New Jersey."

Wow... that's insane! I was paying about $700 a year with full coverage on my Cougar through Liberty Mutual. I just got a quote the other day of under $300/yr for the same coverage with a smaller deductible through Progressive.

GOD! I should probably get on the ball here and get some quotes. I'm currently paying $2k for comprehensive with a $500 deductible.

The plus side of not living in the hub. I think I paid $1800 for June 2001-June 2002. That's versus $75 a month in Albany prior to that.

lets see when I started driving it was about $900 for me to be on my parents policy. When I got my own policy with the same coverage from the same company I beleive I was around 2k also. now with three cars I am around 2,200 after divident check. so I pay about 3k or so once a year for three cars and soon after paying I get a check which should be in the $800 range and it was previously around $500 before with two cars and I was paying around 2,300 a year.

as noted be careful how you are quoted. When I was looking around before I was getting quoted around $1,700 for 2 cars and the same coverage I currently have but that was only for 6 months, not a year.

btw I recomend Amica if available.
