Yup, i have a full turbo kit for the zetec contour/cougar for sale. it uses a T3 Super60 turbo which is extremely similar to the GT2871R

you can look at the for sale add (http://www.newcougar.org/forums/fs-automotive-parts-accessories/124832-fs-zetec-turbo-kit.html)and PM for any questions you may have about it.

Is it a ball bearing water cooled turbo

water cooled?
you mean oil cooled?

never heard of water cooled turbo.

ball bearing turbos are pretty expensive to make so majority are oil bearing turbos.

Maybe he meant a water-air intercooler? (Or whatever the technical term is)

(still not a turbo tho)

The GT2871R Turbocharger is a water-cooled ball bearing turbo.

Water-cooled turbochargers have a "water jacket" where coolant can flow around the cartridge and provide additional cooling.

J2006, you say you "need" a GT2871R, but do you have an engine and head setup that can handle that much power? To be at the point where you need a GT2871R you should have a built block that can handle the power, and you should have head work done so it can flow that much air. Unfortunately you can't just slap on a GT2871R Turbocharger and have 400HP.

for real.. haha i wish they just rated turbo's in HP and you just attached it and it worked! that would be great.. but yea.. right now i'd say i'm priced at atleast 1800 just in basic engine building.. new cam's pistons rods and throttle body.. that's assuming i don't have to do any Machining to my block or head.. which i'm sure block will need some honing at 130k miles..

I'm sorry GT2871RS
Yes, I do have built engine

JE 9:1 CR pistons
eagle H-beam rods with arp rod bolts
Arp Head and main studs
PEP stainless steel valves
zxtuner boost cams intake and exhuast
Ford racing valve spring
and esslinger cam gears
VCT delete
Ported and polished head

It's not an RS....it's just a GT2871R. The GT28RS is the "disco potato", the GT2871R is one step above it.

It's also oil and water cooled, dual ball bearing.

I'm running a hybrid GT2871R. Bigger housing and exhaust wheel. It's a brilliant turbo, you'll love it;)

i've always wondered howh 9:1 compression would run turbo'd.. i've always been under the impression that it should be 8:1.. I wanted to stay at atleast 9 so i wouldn't have terrible non boosted performance.. even if it isn't much.. anyone else running at 9:1?

You should be fine with 9:1 C/R. There are SVT Foci boosting to 20 psi on 93 octane gas, and the SVT Focus has 10.2:1 C/R. So, as long as you have a good tune and your spark advance doesn't get too high you'll be fine.

I'm running 8.3:1 C/R and I sometimes wish it was higher so I could get more low-end power.

WOW! on 10.2:1?! that's crazy.. i'm thinking about having a shot of zex for pre-boost driving.. but didn't really want to spray on 8:1.. seemed like a waste.. but 9:1 shouldn't be bad at all for just a 50 shot just after take off till turbo spools..

I was running 9:1. it felt very much like stock until the turbo really spooled up.

Its a Journal bearing without water cooling. you really dont need either if your going to stay under 300HP. anything over that is pretty much worthless in this platform anyways.

No, it's dual ball bearing, oil, and water cooled. I have this CHRA. It also has nothing to do with hp or platform. Dual ball bearing allows for much better spool/response. Oil and water cooled, for better cooling and efficiency:)

im well aware what the gt2871R is, he was asking if my T3 was a ball bearing and water cooled ;)

also, to much low end torque, which you will increase with the ball bearing turbo from the quicker spool, just spins the tires in the contour/cougar. look at the V6 turbo guys, they dont even have traction until 3rd gear. in a platform that has traction issues with high power, the zetecs advantage is its lack of low end torque so it doesnt spin the wheels, it just goes.

now the watercooling would be nice, i wont argue with that.

cbman, since you're saying they have focus' boosting on 10:1.. would the stock pistons in the zetec be strong enough to handle any decent amount of boost? I'm thinking just replace the rods.. to hold it together.. or would that not work?

The rods in a stock Focus would be a waste, but SVT rods and pistons would be stronger. Although I couldn't tell you if they would fit, as far as piston to valve clearance.

well.. i'm talking about putting after market rod's in but wondering if i could keep my stock pistons and handle boost.. or will aftermarket rods and OEM pistons even connect..?

I don't understand why you go through the trouble of putting aftermarket rods in and not upgrade the pistons also.

But to answer your question. No, I'm pretty sure that will not work. You'll have to upgrade both becuase the rod length is different.

mk.. that's what i needed to know. I plan on upgrading both.. i'm really just trying to learn what's going on rather than just doing it.

the reason you cant just install rods is because the eagle rods are made for the focus. Ford decided to lengthen the rods on the focus, to compensate they lowered the compression height of the pistons (distance from the wrist pin to the top of the piston). this kept the overall length the same.

so if your saying that...( yes i know nothing to do with title....) you would have to get the ford power engine to get the eagle rods?

you have to get both the eagle rods and aftermarket pistons for the focus, you have to use them together. whether you buy the engine from focus power or build it yourself, you MUST use the pistons and rods from the same car (focus rods/pistons OR contour/cougar rods pistons) you can not mix and match.

yea that makes sence lol...
