I'm so glad we have TDS here at work . . .
Oh wait . . . :banghead:
I was directly effected by this. When it went down, we went on TDS's backup line, in which everyone and their mother's cousin was on. Luckily we have a backup T1 line, but we still had some issues because our VPN tunnel was down.

We just switched to Road Runner a month ago from a TDS T1 because we were constantly losing our connection and it was too slow in downloading/uploading.

The line was marked. It's not clear why the construction crew hit it..
maybe I should add some insight on road design.... its the cable company's responsibility to mark their cables... and they are required to mark within 3" [18" off center] of the actual cable.... now marking fiber optic cables is difficult because unlike ol' copper, theres no easy tool to say "yup, ders medle undr tere" and often times theres the old copper cable running right along side of it and the not so smart cable company guys alot of times will do dumb things like mark the dead copper cable next to it... so when the back hoe guys diggin his trench being real careful to avoid the marked line, suddenly you notice all these glowing rods stickin out of the ground [yes they do actually glow]... and then within 5 minutes you have a hundred cable trucks on the scene.... dont ask how I know this.

I actually know alot of the insight on this. My dad and uncle work for the company that hit the line. My dad was workign further down the highway but my uncle was the supervisor on duty when this happened. He actually lost his job from this. It cost over 1.2 million dollars to fix. It was a dumbass move on the guy that hit the line. He knew the line was there and was told to take extra precaution around it but he did not. My uncle had to suffer cause of that guys dumb move. This isn't the first time one of these lines has been hit. They hot one about 2 years ago but it wasnt as major as this.

No offense intended, Frosty. Just for chuckles.
