Ok, so yeah some pages load and others just bring up a blank white page. I have tried this with Safari and Firefox and I'm getting the same results with both. Anyway Im going to bed now. Hopefully it will work tomorrow. Just figured I would let you guys know.

problem solved for now ... PHP setting in .ini file required more memory for version 5.

I am having the same problem this morning. some threads will open fine and some just go to a white screen and say that they are done loading. seems to be random.

I ran across these threads that I wanted to read but they didn't open

It looks like it's doing it to links. I can visit the threads individually fine, but if I click any links I get a blank page.

Nevermind. Now they're not working.

For me, single page threads are fine as are the last pages of multi-page threads. I am getting blanks on earlier pages of multi-page threads though.

Same problem here using IE7.

dont' think it's solved just yet ;)

I was getting blank pages this morning still. the ones I can't load seem totally random, and in various sections. (using safari)
- new threads
- old threads with new posts
- old threads without new posts

all seem to have some I can view and some I can not. Interesting thing though, from my subscription thread list, one I could not open did come back shown as read though - so the server at least knew I was there.

I've also tried to view the source for the blank pages and get a blank source page as well - not even header info

Oh and FYI, the work around for this (at least in the user cp for subscribed threads) would be to click on reply underneath the thread title. It loads fine if you do that.

OK, I just made another adjustment, if this continues, reply to this thread and let me know as I have subscribed.

When I click the "Go to Last Post" button, on really long threads, it goes to the First Post, not the Last. Examples include the GoldMember Bored thread, and the Ohio BS thread.

Haven't figured out what the number of posts is that would be the dividing line for "really long thread" though.

Anyone else notice?

Before, I had that problem for threads that I haven't looked at in a while. I've reported it before but apparently it was some very buried 'feature' in the software and difficult to correct. However, I just tried it again and it no longer does it. It goes to the first unread post for me.

It's doing it again for me, Firefox 3 and Safari 3.

Still does it for me as well. Firefox 3 on both Win XP SP3 and Ubuntu 64bit.

Safari 3 has been out for a year, and the issue persists with that as well. Forgive me for posting about Firefox because, well, I just assumed that when you said...
if this continues, reply to this thread and let me know as I have subscribed.

... that you wanted us to let you know when we noticed an issue.

Obviously I was mistaken.

Someone please clue me in as to what the problem is we are talking about again? When I click on a thread title, it has ALWAYS taken me to the first post in the thread. Of course, I have always used FF when I can, but just tested it in IE and Safari and got the same results. The problem that this thread discusses isn't an issue for me in either of the 3 mentioned browsers ... threads load just fine for me every time and have since I made these changes weeks ago. If the thread isn't loading at all, I would suggest cleaning out your cache and cookies and then relogin to the boards and try again. If that doesn't solve your problem, let me know as I can keep adjusting the settings, but I simply can't reproduce your errors. Browser doesn't make a difference with this problem.

If you hit the blue box beside the thread title that takes you to the last read post in said thread.

It works for me Im using FF2.

FastCougar
06-25-2008, 02:16 PM
And my point being ... what does that have to do with the Original Post?

Sorry Trevor, maybe this should be a new thread.

I'm using FF3 on two different computers - a WinXP sp3 box, and a 64bit Ubuntu 8.04 box. On certain large threads, for example the Ohio NECO BS thread, or the Random Rants thread in Gold/Platinum Hangout, when I click on the blue arrow for "Go to last post" it does not go to the last post, instead it goes to the beginning of the thread. It's only large threads it seems, as the blue arrow worked just fine when I entered this thread.

I'll test again on a FireFox 2 box at home (Win2K sp5) to see if it's FF3 related. If I get some time (I'm at work on the Ubuntu box) I'll fire up VMware and try IE on XP, but that'll probably be this evening as well.

However, I will answer your question. That function transcends browsers. Open all 3 browers to test this:

1) Find a long ass thread you have never viewed
2) In FF click on the blue icon next to the thread title and you should be taken to the first page.
3) In IE click on it again and you should be taken to the 2nd page.
4) In ANY OTHER BROWSER click on it again and you should be taken the 3rd page.

It's based on your login profile and that table flushes every 7 days. So, if you are following a thread and then stop following it ... it looses it's knowledge of your involvement with the thread. Otherwise, the table would grow out of control and this board would be terabytes of info, not gigabytes ;)

Keep in mind, this takes you TO THE LAST READ POST, not the last post ... think about it. If it doesn't know you have read it, it will take you to the last read post ... the first post ... make sense?

FastCougar

Again, not only off topic, but also not browser related. It doesn't matter what browser you are using ... this is data associated with your profile cross referenced between which posts you have read in a given thread. It assumes that a post that is loaded in your profile is read.

Sorry, but this table MUST be purged with a short time value due to the DB growing exponetially.

I can't get some threads to give anything but a blank white page no matter what ( & not OS or browser dependent: windows & linux; ff2, opera 9.0, ie 6 ...).

I can go to Forums > Gold/Platinum Member Hangout, and from there get the loooong post "Goldmember's Bored Thread", but not "Planet Florida" or "the anti-rant", among others. I can go to the The Lounge, and open most threads, but not "NECO Personalities".

I've tried each link for these (thread name, post #, first new post) and none works. I've tried copying the link & opening in another tab - no go.

If this is based on my profile, can that be cleared or reset or etc?

I've had these issues before, and I've solved them by doing the following:

Reset your "responses shown" count in your profile to < 20. This splits the thread into more manageable chunks for your browser.

Click "refresh". This hasn't not worked once.

If all else fails and it's urgent, type the thread title into google and view the cached page. Chances are it won't be recent, but for things like guides this could work.

Except I tried your scenario, and it does not exhibit the behavior that you describe. :( It always goes to the first page, no matter what, when the thread is huge; and not the last post nor last read post.

It's not a huge problem, as I can read all the posts (I've not experienced the blank pages that it seems others have at some point), but it didn't exhibit this behavior before.

I set my Options to 20 responses per page & got all threads I tried, so of course I immediately went back & set my Options to 50 responses per page: Still Good!!

Thanks for that advice.:)

(Googling got me a not found, tho'. )

I use Firefox, and I've had the same problems pre and post 3.0, and mine was also fixed by the "responses per page" change.. It Also solved the same issue on my girlfriend's IE7 computer.

DEVIOUSDEV

Same for me.

What I think happened was that there used to be an option for showing 100 responses per page, and that option no longer exists after some recent update. However instead of defaulting to the next most responses per page, the software went to a grey area where it gets confused until you personally go in to your preferences and manually choose a new count. Once you do that, even if you choose the 50 response option, it works as expected with no white pages.
