Thought I would take a few pictures and make a little write-up as I installed my B&M transmission supercooler this weekend. This does not cover every single step but should give those looking to do this a good idea of what is in store. The whole process is extremely easy and the B&M kit comes with everything you should need.

here is a link to summit racing's B&M kit:
B&M 70255 - B&M SuperCooler Oil Coolers - summitracing.com (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=BMM%2D70255&view=1&N=700+400004+4294924500)

I ordered mine on a wednesday night and it was at my door by early friday! I was very impressed with Summit... and I got a free 40th aniv. hat :)

Here's whats included: (you shouldn't need anything else)
http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee265/antonesall/DSCF0440.jpg

1. Disconnect hard line at bottom of radiator (passenger side).
Have a pale or something to catch a little fluid that will come out when you disconnect. (you can see the new adapter in center of picture)
http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee265/antonesall/DSCF0445.jpg
2. Attach the provided adapters to the back of the radiator and to the transmission fluid line.
(What adapters to use and where will be fairly self evident.)

3. Decide where you will be mounting your cooler and go ahead and test fit.
After you are satisfied with the positioning proceed by either using the zip-tie like fasteners or bolts that are provided (included with B&M kit, not sure about others )
http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee265/antonesall/DSCF0447.jpg

4. Attach the rubber hosing to the adapters you put on earlier, not forgetting to put the provided clamps on , and run lines to/from your mounted transmission cooler!
http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee265/antonesall/DSCF0462.jpg

5. Check over everything and make sure you hooked it all up correctly and tighten down all clamps so you don’t find yourself with any leaks.
http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee265/antonesall/DSCF0463.jpg

6. You should add some transmission fluid to account for the extra lines and capacity of the cooler. This is a great time to do a transmission flush as I did.

An extra pic of the project car barn

Hope this helps someone and if you see anything you would like added/corrected, let me know!

forgive my ignorance, but where does it connect to the actual transmission
also, does this benefit MTX's in any way? because from what I hear, transmission coolers are an ATX sort of thing
?

the line you plug into the cooler goes into the tranny

i thought it said it went to the radiator

The line goes from your transmission --> thru your radiator --> into aftermarket transmission cooler --> then back to your tranny.

hope that makes a little sense?

a little, why's the radiator even in the equation?
i'm not totally knowledgeable on this sort of thing, but does the tranny fluid already run through the radiator and this cooler just pulls the excess heat that it can off the fluid or something?

The "stock" trans cooler is integrated into the radiator. You want the extra cooler in-line because the coolest the trans fluid can ever get in the radiator is close to the temperature of the fluid surrounding it- The coolant, which is usually ~200ºF.

The plate style cooler applies ambient air to cool the fluid. The theory here is the edge gets taken off in the radiator, then it gets cooled further in the plate cooler, then back to the trans.

Yes! Only for Automatic Transmissions.

don't tell that to the guy who installed his tranny cooler on his power steering, lol.

Who did that?

I installed mine behind the power steering rack, and in front of the radiator. It's kinda wedged in between.

i cant remember his name, but it was over a year ago... he posted about how he installed his cooler and then somebody told him he did it wrong, but his power steering must feel like butter now, lol.

ya I was looking through some of fords documentation last night on that. I dont even remember what my radiator looks like since its been out of the car and boxed up the past 6 months... do ALL the ATX's have tranny lines that run into the radiator? the svt radiators dont have this line?

I'm just confused, because I dont ever remember those lines existing in my car.

oh also note how tight you make those connectors. I found mine to be a tad undertightened and they leaked.

also keep in mind the hose slag. You want to make sure they are not hanging in a way that if you hit some road debry or something that its not going to be ripping those lines out.

True... but the stock splash gaurd piece under the bumper will protect the hoses. unless it is removed for some reason

AFAIK, yes, ALL the ATX radiators have the integrated cooler. No, the SVT radiator does not because no SVTs were ATXs.

Would it be bad to place the tranny cooler in front of the radiator?

Absolutely.

the svt radiators dont have these lines?

Nope. All SVTs were MTXs.
