Well, I finally decided I'm going to put a Flowmaster 50 Series Delta Flow dual exhaust in my Cougar!
Next dilemma....I called the guys at FlowMaster and asked if it would need a resonator. The sales rep (who was very helpful to me when I called once before) said it's one of the quieter muffler systems and that a resonator wouldn't be needed. The shop was only trying to sell me something I didn't need. Yet, when I called yesterday (whaddya know!), the guy said I should get the resonator or it will sound really loud inside the car.
Does anyone here have experience with the 50 Series Delta Flow and whether or not I would need a resonator? As it is, this muffler already has 3 chambers on it.
Advice is much appreciated.
yes, 50 series sounds like ass.
get the 40 series.

I have the 40 series Delta Flow and it sounds magnificent. How did you choose the 50 series over the 40 series?

1. Friends on my pool team, 2 of which said the 50 series is better than the 40.
2. The website Flowmaster, Inc. (http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/mufflers.html) shows that the 50 is quiet on the inside and loud on the outside...which is what I want.
3. The sales rep at FlowMaster thought that the 40 series really didn't belong in our car and recommended the 50 series.
If I wanted really loud, I'd keep the current setup of dual Weapon-R mufflers. It looks really sweet in the back...like 2 cannons! You can easily fit 2 tennis balls up the tips! :goofy:
I used to think that the louder you go, the more money you have to pay. Yet after looking thru the mufflers, it's just the other way around.

No Joke. Before I learned of this site, i listened to the flowmaster people and got the 50. I hated it. It is alot more "ricey" than the 40, not 4 cylinder ricey, just more high pitched, where as the 40 has a low rumble. Yeah, the 40 is louder inside, and sounds amazing inside and out. And i'd rather it sound good and loud outside and in, than be quiet inside and crappy outside. Thats just me, but my 2cents=40.

40......better
comparing 50s to 40s is night and day.
go ahead and get the 50s if you want... but you will not like it after one week.
Good luck.

You never know. After all, I thought the loudness of the Weapon-R's was the coolest thing going when I bought the car....but I got sick of those in a mighty hurry....especially going up Cook Hill Rd....no need for Q-tips anymore. :ugh:

I personally believe you are listening to the wrong people...
All of us Cougar owners have a lot of experience with exhausts and what sounds good on our cars....
Your friends and your exhaust shop guy are telling you info based on what a V8 sounds like with that 50 series, I can almost bet money on that.
Listen to Cougar owners, you won't regret it.
