They celebrate the other generation of the Cougar. We're like the adopted African baby of the family.

How ironic that they're holding their version of "Cougarfest" the same weekend as us, at the location we used LAST year.

They always have their show in Boardman. It was within a month or so of ours last summer.

It is actually at the Red Roof just down the street from where we were, though. Funny.

"Cat Jam"? Seriously, "Cat Jam"? I mean, Cougarfest is maybe a little obvious and not hugely creative . . . but "Cat Jam"? :ugh:

1983 to PRESENT ??

where are the present cougars (or at least more present) in that image?
http://www.coolcats.net/catjam/2007/cj07_large.jpg

and no offense to anyone - Because I know there are a number of people here (and elsewhere) who really like the previous generation of cougars/t-birds, but whenever I see those I can only think of the 1988 (or was it 1986?) baby blue t-bird I drove for 6 months before buying the cougar - and HATED the crap out of it.

Actually, they always use that same location.

I wouldn't call it competition. More like long lost kin, twice removed.

Actually if you read the fine print on the site, it's for MN-12 and Fox body Cougars.

I've actually met the guy at a Cougar show. He's a real nice guy. He's always liked the New Edge Cougar and had great respect for it and the owners. Too bad some of you don't feel the same way.

In case some of you haven't realized this is a completely dead platform. I seriously doubt Ford will ever resurrect the Mercury lineup. Some of you should be ashamed of yourselves. They are Cougar enthusiasts just like us, regardless of what platform of Cougar they own or like.

I've always thought of the notion of joining the two together. I guess only time will tell...

And bobby, the person that puts the event together IS from Boardman, OH. They have hosted their event there for quite some time.

I figure when our CougarFest is as small as theirs and we all realize that we could combine financial resources to do the things both clubs want to do, we'll look at combining them. That all-Cougar show that was held in Fairfax a couple years back went really well, I thought, and the NECO people that were there put in a good showing and people were very supportive, at least from what I saw.

My Impala is in the same situation - formerly V8 RWD changed to V6 FWD - and the animosity between the two groups of owners is occasionally far worse than it is between the Cougar owners. The W-body owners started new clubs because they got tired of hearing the older Impala owners *****ing about the new ones. Obviously, it's not a universal dislike, though.

I've met him a few times, and he is a very nice guy, who ALWAYS invites us out to his events. The people there have always been very polite and welcoming of the new cougar's. It's sad to see so much rudeness to a group that has been kind to us.

That was a nice event. Kelly, Henry and I entered and only a few people there were rude about us being invited. Most of the attendees were happy to see us there and had lots of questions about our cars.

I've met a number of older Cougar owners, all have been very interested in my car and asked tons of questions. I also had a few photo ops with various older Cougars, they wanted the "old vs new" photo for their wall... =)

A number of the shows I go to thru the year are classic/custom car shows, as my area has a LARGE hotrod community. I've only had a few people complain, but mostly just sore when I take a trophy and they don't. Most of them shut up when they realize I've got as much into my 99 as they do into their 69. :P

on their registration form, it leaves 1999-2002 open as 'their' years though. (compared to the other years listed as "other car").

My previouse 2 cars were a 88 T-bird and a 90 T-bird, I loved both of them. I like the new cougars alot better though.

Another of the very few Pittsburgh representing NECO memebers, Vyk, has a
80 somthing T-brid Turbo coupe, thats supposed to be pretty bass, I havent seen him since he brought it out to Pitt though.

Also when we went to the Ford Nationals last year they had some dam ugly Merkurs there but dam was that one was powerful. It had a Turbo Coupe motor in it and they couldnt even hold down to the dyno. It was smoking its slicks on the rollers and still registerd over 500+hp.

So you cant always judge a car by its looks.

Nothing but respect from me for the older T-Birds/Cougars. My older brother had a '92 Bird with the 5.0 back in 1994. Damn nice car; luxury, power and surprisingly sure-footed handling, despite the rwd set-up. Only problem he ever had with it were those damn automatic seat belts.
