I am curious to know if this happens as much in the USA as it does here. You know the guy/girl who comes down the outside of a lane of traffic puts their indicator on and cuts in front of you at the last minute.
I live in Sydney Australia and it is becoming more and more prevalent and you know its funny with people who do this because when you refuse to let them in they abuse you.
It's like its your fault, you are the one doing the wrong thing.
I don't know where these people get off thinking they are so important that every one has to get out of their way because well they can't be bothered being patient and waiting their turn.
OH NO they have to go straight to the head of the line.
Or even worse...
The guy/girl who goes down the outside lane right up behind a car that is turning left/right then cuts in and turns themselves.
Well I have one thing to say to them....
NOT IN FRONT OF THIS LITTLE BLACK DUCK !!! (don't even bother because it aint gonna happen).:)
Just curious if it happens in the US.

It depends on where you are, some places are worse then others. Cincinnati I found is extremely bad for that.
I find this doesn't happen if your just nice enough to let people in like 5 seconds out of your life isn't going kill you. Im not defending irresponsible drivers who switch lanes radically but if they have their turn signal and have enough time to properly move you should be nice and let them in.

^ If someone is making a good honest attempt to change lanes, I'll let them in. However, I don't offer the same courtesy to those who drive like idiots and cut in and out through traffic, tailgating everyone.

^hes talking about situations where say the right lane ends... well they zip all the way up to where it ends, and expect to get in front of the traffic who got over when they were supposed to.... and the traffic is usually CAUSED by those who wait to get over TO BEAT IT!
yes is happens here, not in florida as much though really. People seem to be much nicer on the roads here but meaner in person. When I lived in Chicago, it was COMPLETELY opposite. Nice people, asshole drivers....

happens here all the time. especially when there's two lanes and one shortly ends after a traffic light, so there's always a few cars in the right lane that ends and races the traffic in the other lane to get to the front of the line when the light turns green, and then everyone just stops together at the next light. some people just don't get it i guess...

I've seen people run off the road trying to do that. Several times.
Not worth driving like a douche.

yeah, some people really do it on accident thought too
i was visiting friends in illinois and without warning, the lane ended on the other side of a hill, so i was stuck in this lane and people were looking at me like i'm some sort of an asshole, completely ignoring the fact that a.) there WERE NO SIGNS SIGNALING THE ENDING OF THE LANE. PERIOD. and b.) my car had Florida Tags, so they could easily assume I didn't know where the **** lanes ended and where they didn't.
In short, I sat there for a good half hour waiting for the person who was going to let me in, only to find out that person either didn't exist or wasn't on that road. So I finally got pissed, pulled up my e-brake, and spun the tires long enough to scare this dude in a benz enough to stop so i let off the e-brake and slid right into the flow of traffic. Goes to show you how pissed i was!

Holy crap a half hour?!
When my Grand Am showed it's bastard side, I was stuck in downtown traffic, and was trying to get over a lane to park on the shoulder, but no one wanted to let me over (traffic was going about 1mph IF it was moving) and I'm like holy effing crap my car IS SMOKING people... MY EFFING CAR IS SMOKING... I'm not trying to cut you off because I really want in front of you that bad, I need to get my ass off the road :banghead:

It definately happens all over. I've been cut off by the only other car on the road before. Why they didn't get over earlier or wait the few seconds it would have taken for me to pass them, I will never know.

All the time, I even see people on the shoulder of the road trying to cut in and get in front of everyone. I also see people pull out into a lane that ends on the Hyw. and drive up 10 cars and cut back in. I won't let people in like that, and the funny thing is they get pissed at you for not letting them in. Women are especially bad for this kind of behavior. At least around here that is.

A classic case the other night on my way home in peak hour traffic (please bear in mind for you yanks we drive on the left hand side of the road in RHD cars) I am the third car in the queue at traffic lights to turn right on a 4 lane road where the two right hand lanes turn right and the two inside lanes go straight ahead. What happens at this intersection is that when the lights turn green the two inside lanes go but the right turn lanes have a red arrow for about two minutes. So what happens is the inside lanes empty out but the right turn lanes back up for about 50 metres and when you turn right there is a concrete crash barrier on the left so there is only room for two cars to turn right at any time.
So there I am doing the right thing waiting for the arrow to turn green when down the inside this guy comes slowly ( I saw him coming in the side mirror), trying to time it so that he can jump the arrow.
But he mis-times it and the two cars in front of me are into the corner before he gets there so that leaves him in no-mans land trying to "cut in" on me. I am like "WTF" and "NO WAY JOSE" and dont let him in.
Then of course he's down with his window on his horn, giving me the finger.
Again I am WTF he pulls up next to me down the road so I am down with my window and tell him EXACTLY what I think of him.
As he starts to answer back I am up with the window (electric windows are great eh!!) and OFF in the traffic.
You know I just don't get it.
Some people just think that A/ They are far to important to be delayed for five minutes B/ They are exempt from the road rules and C/ Have no manners whatsoever.
Well to all those people all I can say is **** OFF and try it somewhere else.

God, it's getting really bad around here.
You have to remember, in Utah, there are 4 seasons: Unberable cold, construction, uberable hot, and construction. Lane's are ending short everywhere around here nowadays.
It's getting to the point where if I have to be anywhere in the time period of about 5:30-6:30, I'll either leave really early, or show up late.

I think that 'somewhere else' is Melbourne mate. If you thought Sydney was bad, drivers in Melbourne are the most arrogant. Every fricken traffic light is a drag race, and heaps of ppl try to cut in! There was one part of Melbourne which was notorious for ppl cutting in to turn. Hoddle St pretty much connects the city to the eastern freeway. The entrance is a 2 lane turning lane which is part of the 4 lane hoddle st. Now, ppl know to stay in those 2 lanes before they turn into the turning lanes because there are so many cars going onto the freeway. But, there used to be alot of ppl in the other 2 lanes who would try and merge across to beat the traffic! Well, the local council decided to actually do something! Now there's a concrete barrier at that 'last minute' section and ppl can't do sh!t hahaha.
Basically, i'm a curtious driver. If you've been waiting patiently and not cutting in and out of traffic, i'll let u in. If u've been an arsehole and an arrogant ****, then you can sit a wait. If you don't like it...:gtfo:

I'm flat out embarrassed at the aggressive tactics my coworkers use while driving (I work at a large company, there are 2500+ employees at this site). They are easily the worst in New Hampshire.
Red lights are usually the cause. If I stop for a red light, I am sometimes honked at if I don't execute right-on-red immediately. In more extreme cases, people will drive around me so they can cut off the traffic that has the green. I once witnessed a suit-and-tie idiot in his Acura cut around people and run red lights twice, so I kept him squarely behind me, accelerating when he tried to pass (single lane roads with double yellow) and slowing down when he couldn't. Unsurprisingly he was behind me all the way into work.
I expect this type of stuff when I'm in Boston ... but not up here in the sticks!

The other thing that I have done in the past when driving on a two lane expressway and looking for something amusing to do is the following.
I wait for the inevitable "ricer" to appear weaving in and out of the traffic.
What I do is leave a gap between me and the car on the inside lane, sort of leaving the gate open for him. He comes up behind me goes to the inside lane and then and only then - I SHUT THE GATE !!!:loser:
IT'S SO FUNNY the ricers are all over their lane looking daggers at me waving their hands giving me the fingers but STUFF THEM just let them sit there for a couple of K's. Open the gate a little, just tempting them, and then shut it again. Jeez it's good fun. Once the novelty wears off I then let them go and they roar off down the road.:gtfo:
TRES AMUSEMENT!!!

I live in a city of like 60k so I don't face this everyday, but driving around various states I've already developed pet peves. For instance: 3 lane highway. Sign says "Left Lane Closed Ahead 1000ft" People just flat out ignore those signs and zip on by in that lane, cause obviously they're more important to merge and keep with the flow of traffic. So you're stuck with a bunch of cars trying to get out of the closed lane right at the last minute, bunching up the flow of traffic behind them. Why oh why? Needless to say, I don't let them in. -_-
But I've seen it and I practice it, if I see someone honestly trying to get in, using blinker and junk, they get in. Just wish more people would use their head.

that happened last time i was in illinois, and no later than seeing the sign the trucker in front of me moved over to hog both lanes and cut people off from scooting on down to merge (this was in stop and go traffic, so its not like its not safe, but it was smart thinking of the trucker). Boy, were the people trying to use that lane PISSED

lol Nashua is not the sticks. I'd like to know how many people working at your company either live in MA or once lived there and moved north (much like you).
When you truly go north to the real sticks of NH, you'll see it's nothing like that.
Southern NH is a cesspool of MA bad driving transplants.

I have done a similar thing in heavy traffic on a dual carriage way I have seen people use the emrgency stopping lane straight up the inside at 60-70 KMH right up to the end of the lane and then cut in. I got sick of it one day and so took the inside lane and just held my spot.
The idiots behind me flashing their lights and sounding their horns but NO WAY was I going to let them past.
Another way to pass the time in heavy traffic.

I'd just like to say that I have someone cut in front of me at least once every time I drive. In fact, when it doesn't happen, I start wondering whether I'm actually awake or just dreaming about driving. DC sucks for driving.

On Route 30 in York PA, there's a section where it goes from 3 lanes to 2. The right lane is an exit that brings you to West York. Idk why but people always wait till the last minute to get into the right lane. Waiting till they're practically out of room in the paint to get in. I guess they don't want be to stuck behind cars that go the speed limit or even 10 mph over it.
