now i know how mike has been feeling for the past forever. came out to my kitty on friday night, and she was so dead that nothing would work, not even the interior lights. so i dutifully called caa, and they arrived to boost my car. drove the car to 'recharge', then took her home. went to get in the car the next morning - same scenario. waited until monday, having to drive nasty beige taurus of my stepgrandmothers all weekend, except when i could sucker my mom out of her explorer. phone the dealership on monday morning, and they send a towtruck. towtruck guy couldn't even get my kitty into neutral to tow it. so after keeping it 2 days and still not finishing it, we called thorncrest ford. the root of the problem - Ford didn't send me the battery recall, so it didn't get fixed, and that is the only reason they gave me as to why my car crapped out. to top it all off, i asked them to also service it and repair my squeeky wiggly power window. didn't they have to send it out to do it, and now it is day 3 and still no word on my car. grrrr....:(
i don't wanna drive the taurus, waaaaa!! (hee hee)
why can't they do something right for a change?

tell them to give you a courtesy car...you might still get a taurus, but at least it will be a new one...
Yeah, they should give you a courtesy car, it might be a Focus or possibly a Taurus, but hey, its better than the Civic that I got!!!

the irony is that about 4 hours after this post, they called to let me come pick it up. not that i will get to drive it now anyways - i have a wedding to go to in ottawa. so no cougar time for me till next week. ah well - better fixed and in the garage than gone at the dealership:biggrin:

A note about battery charging....
Any time you have a dead battery, it should be charged using a proper battery charger. Driving a boosted battery should only be done if absolutely necessary to get the vehicle home or to a shop. The reason for this is that charging your battery off the alternator can actually overdemand the alternator and (could) cause damage and shorten the life of the alternator. Not saying you were wrong to do so, just adding my 2 cents.
Also, it sounds as if the battery has been deep discharged twince now. I'd have the dealer check it to make sure the battery can still hold a proper charge.
Good Luck

starshower, I'm curious to know what year is your Cougar? I have a 1999 Cougar and haven't received a recall notice on the battery.
Is the recall notice for all Cougars or just a particular model year?

Palerider,
go to the dealer and tell them to do the recall anyway. I have a 1999 and I got my notice about a month ago. If your car is affected they should do it regardless.
