Right now its take 40 dollars worth of gas.it fills up but after 3 or 4 days I have to refill it up. Is there anything I can do to make the gas last longer

Drive less. And slower. And make sure you're up to date on all maintenance.

Start out gently from a stop. Never give it more accelerator than it needs. Over-inflate the tires just a little. And like Ryan said - maintenance. Clean 5W-20 oil. Clean air filter. Fresh spark plugs and spark plug wires.

Oh, and a Tornado.

lose some weight, intake and exhuaset mods are said to gain mpg, drive smart, sell it and get a hyundai.

Costs me $60 to fill up my tank, and i've managed to last it 4 days so far, and 3/4 of a tank still there. I drive mainly city, and if you drive like a grandma, accelerating slowly, stopping as little as possible, you can squeeze a little more than 28 mpg. That is, as previously said, if you keep up on all your maintenance. Mine's stock, so yea....

I had some audio system installed in my cat when I bought it and used to visit gas station about once a week. After I have removed 2 amplifiers and a subwoofer and have made a stock audio setup I managed to last 2 weeks without visiting the gas station. Mostly driving in the city. So there is something to consider if you have some additional audio equipment installed and want to be economical :)

Seems to me something maybe wrong with your car you should get 25mpg easy unless you have something in your car that enjoys the taste of gas

Pro.

I have to drive back and forth to my school everyday which is across town. Just for that reason I try not to drive anywhere on the weekends I just con my friends into driving.

i have to drive about 15-20 minutes to my school everyday as well, even though we are out now, but i still got the same mileage when i was in school, and that ride consists of some fairly large uphill slopes and about 5 stoplights

30 gallon fuel cell

I do around 100 Mile per day 4 days a week and 45 miles on the remaining days...:(

so I fil up every about 4 or 5 days... 30+MPGs FTW!

drop all your passenger seats, your spare, the jack, the little hatch flap thing by the rear head rests, your cat and the rest of your exhaust, and then put a big ol' cold air on that.... you'll get about a 30% increase in fuel economy

Most cougars are listed from 18-21 mpg in city, all years, they should be around there (the V6s). And around 30-32 on highway. I drive normally and get about 20mpg in city and 32mpg on highway without many stops. I got a maximum of 505 miles out of one tank of gas a few weeks back. I did a fill-up to the brim first using premium, nearly 16 gallons, than ran it bone dry while driving to a fishing trip and back.

Its nice to know I have a car which can do 500 miles on highway because most cars can only do about 350-400. Cougar gas tanks are quite large, designed for the low 20mpg in city usage which ends up at around 300-350 miles on 1 tank depending on your driving style. But then they get great highway mileage for a V6 leading to the high distances possible. BTW a 2000 Mustang V6 gets only 24-25mpg and its just 25hp more than a cougar.

Anyone know how the 4 cylinders do... what their MPGs are and their tank capacity?

 you people who use premium are hilarious. Have fun flushing your cash down the toilet!

See fueleconomy.gov for ACTUAL GOVERNMENT ratings.

Zetec Cougar = 21/31
Duratec Cougar = 18/26 (the Ford window sticker said 20/29)

YMMV.

500 miles on a tank in a v6?? that seems a little high. i've got a 4 cyl and the best i've got was during the drive to hamillfest (ALL highway) and went about 480-490 on a tank.
