I had been out of work all last week helping Dawn with the kids because she had a very minor skin surgery to remove a questionable mole from her stomach area. I had a nice week, beautiful weather so I had the kids play outside a few days... you know, just a good week with my family.
I knew there was a reason I definitely didn't want to go into work today, and as soon as our pre-shift meeting begun, I found out why...
Another one of my friends passed away early Monday morning! :(
Ray Dagenais was a co-worker of mine for about 1.5 years, and he resigned about 5 months ago because he had a terrible back condition that was causing him so much pain. He was a Veteran Marine, 28 years old, and an all around good guy that just had some bad stuff happen to him.
Since he was a Veteran, all of his medical care came from the Vet's Hospital down in New Haven, CT, and he would go all the way down there 3 times a week to see his 3 doctors... and all they would do was throw prescriptions at him and tell him they would help.
Well, they didn't! He was so hooked on his meds, that they forced him to resign from the USPS those 5 months ago. Since then, he got divorced and was quite depressed, and continued taking more of his meds. He also drank a little from time-to-time, and would forget when he last took his Oxycontin...
Apparently, that is what killed him. Alcohol mixed with a very strong Prescription of Oxy... and he OD'd.
I am SHOCKED about this tragedy. but I knew something like this was going to happen to him. The VA hospital just wouldn't help him in any other way, like surgery or anything. and the amount of meds the kept giving him was just way too much... I just can't believe that 2 of my friends have died in less than 2 months of each other. I wasn't very close to Ray, but we shared a lot in common (especially our back problems) and we talked everyday that we worked together. I hadn't seen him in 4 months.
R.I.P. Ray Dagenais You will be missed! :(
