so I had to go down to So.Cal today for work. Left Portland on a 630am flight for Ontario (LA area) and drove east to Cabazon, about an hour drive - nearly to Palm Springs. pretty un-eventful morning.
After finishing in Cabazon, I start driving toward Palm Springs - where my flight home is leaving from - 25 minute drive or so.
1/2 way there I pass "life" sized concrete dinosaurs next to a burger king and some little museum. So since I had a spare hour or so before needing to get to the airport, and hadn't had lunch yet, decide at the next exit I would turn around and go back . so I go about 5 miles and there's an exit. I get off the freeway and back on again. Not 1/4 mile onto the freeway I notice the other direction (that I had been going) is at a stop, and then notice p against the concrete median is two totally smashed caved in cars that each look like they rolled a couple times
Go get a burger eat in front of the brontosaurus and watch to see if the freeway is backing up - after 20-30 minutes it looks to be ok, so get back on going toward Palm Springs. Traffic was totally clear, but the cars were still there being loaded onto wreckers and were a total twisted mess.
Get to the airport around 3pm for my 422pm flight and find out at checkin that it's delayed until 5pm. get to the gate and find out it's delayed until 630pm!
Finally get back to Portland around 9:30 and remember I need to get gas before I get home - ugh
Oh - but better than the flight that was delayed going to seattle... it's plane had a bad battery, which they did not have a spare at this airport, so were having one driven from LAX (in 6pm traffic) and they were looking at an extra 3 hrs delayed beyond the first 1 before they figured out the issue was a battery
my head hurts
oh - and my rental was a cookie ;)
