I dont have 2nd 4th or reverse has anyone had this problemThe cables are hooked up and seem to be fine

check under the hood to see that all the linkage mounts are correct.

Yes there correct , this happened when I stoped and was taking off from 1st went to 2nd gear and there was nothing but 1st 3rd and 5th

are they actually not there or you can not get into it them? i ran into the same issue when i had my sunfire and my spring on the clutch had grenaded, eventually it lead to all of the gears have issues

The cable is the problem. If you have 1, 3, and 5, the cable is PULLING, but it isn't PUSHING.

the cable is pushing I took the cable off the shifter and it does go in and out but the linkage on the trans wont go all the way in could it be something in the trans or is there an adjustment on the cable

The spot where the cable is held in place, either at the floorboard or on the trans case, isn't holding. Although you seem to think the cable is pushing, it's not - it has no leverage because it isn't mounted solidly.

It happened to me. I speak from experience.
