Hi everyone my names Johnson, im new here, so this is my first post.

I was wondering, cause I havent actually HAVE my car yet, (Dont have it until Monday) Its a 99' Mercury Cougar V6, but I dont know if its a 2.5L or a 3.0L

I didnt want to post this question in the "2.5L DURATEC Performance" because it just doesnt sound right.

And if my car is a 2.5L/3.0L how do you know? Is it the year?

Thank You

They never came 3.0l stock, so it's going to be a 2.5l unless the previous owner swapped it out. Which is something they would've stated.

Unless someone swapped a 3L in it's a 2.5L. The only factory V6 option in a 99-02 Coug was the 2.5L Duratec.

Look for V6 badging on the trunk. If it's got all round disc brakes, its a 2.5L. As far as the 3.0 goes, that can only be swapped from a Taurus, Escape....Considering the only engines available for the Cougar from 99-02 were the 2L Zetec and 2.5 Duratec.

Welcome!

I highly doubt you have a 3.0L; the Cougar was never produced with the 3L. You can tell by popping open your hood and taking a look at the engine - it should say "Duratec 2.5L" or something along those lines. Post some pics of the new ride!

*wow* that was quick

Thanks for all your fast replies!

So now that I know its a 2.5L (Cause like someone said, its probably very unlikely for a 3.0L)

Another quick question...Whats a "Duratec"? Like...Is it better than a regular engine? And...Do I have a Duratec?

Lol sorry for all these questions!

Oh btw, I will be posting up some pics probably Monday or Tuesday!

Not a good indicator...Some V6s came with rear drums. It just means they didn't have the sports package.

It's just another engine model. Ford also produces another V6 engine that goes by the name of "Vulcan". It's absolute trash and it's probably why they put it in my mom's Taurus.

I wouldn't call the Vulcan trash - its a durable, reliable engine. Just not very high-performing.

The early vulcans 88-95 were known for lasting to high milage. So no they were not performers but yes very reliable, and welcome to the boards.
