so I know the xcal is capable of turning things off, where they will register as Not Applicable on a scan tool, such as emmisions sensors.

is there a list of things I can turn off.

basically I need to do my homework on deadpanning sensors to the ECU.

specifically,
seatbelts, door ajars, trunk ajar, bulb failures, HVAC, airbags, anything not critical for running the car.

Curiosity question - Does all of that even go through the ECU? I wouldn't think you'd need to door ajar signals going through ECU, or even seat belt warnings, as that could be something simpler in the instrument cluster.

I'd give the wiring diagram a quick scan if I wasn't sitting at my desk at work. Either way, interesting question and a good thing to sticky once it's answered.

I had the same problem, but more with transmision codes thrown after my swap. The guys at brenspeed said that they couldn't eliminate those codes, so I'm not sure about these.

Some arent going to go directly to ECU, will goto other computers thats will then goto ECU. Some I would assume you could not turn off you would have to put in resistors or hard wire connections.

is there any documentation on the SCT settings that I could peruse to get a better idea?

i wonder if there is any helpful info on the SCT forum.....interesting. all the info i had see n was for the tuning aspect. you going a different route with the xcal2....very interesting

then they dont know what they are talking about. mine are shut off

The tranny is basically defined by one scalar value, trans_type. My manual cougar's pcm has transmission pressure and torque maps, shifting times, etc defined, but pcm doesn't read those values when it has trans_type set to manual.

specifically,
seatbelts, door ajars, trunk ajar, bulb failures, HVAC, airbags, anything not critical for running the car.

From that list, pcm only knows and controls the AC clutch. "anything not critical for running the car" = not pcm related circuits (mostly).

Things that you can turn off are all somehow directly connected to the engine (egr, imrc, ...etc) or things needed to run the engine (cooling fans and fuel pump for example). Pcm doesn't have information about your airbags, seat belts, status of your windscreen wipers, etc.

Dash warning lights are controlled by a few modules together. Remote locking, alarm and double locking are controlled by one module.

ps. Some of the aux warning or control modules can be read and tested with ford tools via the obdii plug. These few modules use different contacts in the connector and doesn't share the real obdii bus or protocol.

So how would I then change my trans type in the ecu, without swapping in a real MTX ecu?

have either a dyno shop do it or nautaulis performance do it. it is litterally clicking a box in the program

Will my strange rising revs between shifts go away?

thank you Kymi, but I somehow have to dissagree about what is sent to the PCM, it may not be direct, but things like if the airbag deploys, doesnt that also effectively cut off fuel to the engine? That if the alarm is going off that it will kill the car after 30 seconds or so.

and good call about an ODBCII scanner to check some things. I do have an autotap, I didnt even think of trying that.

Hey Terry, you would know better than I - if I have DeWayne kill all the emissions related stuff will I still be able to pass emissions testing here? I'm contemplating registering my cars at my parents' place so I don't have to deal with it, but that seems like a bit of a hassle.

no, there should be no reason that your car wouldnt pass. technically their job is just to look at weither any CODES are thrown.

worse case scenerio, just do what I do and go every day until you get a lazy employee who doesnt care and passes you reguardless.

oh add that to the list of things that can be turned off, the fuel vapor canister thing under the spare tire.
