Today I Fixed most of the rear bumper, but still have to make a panel to fit into the spots for the License plate lights because the holes were cut too big...
The Front bumper fits horrible on the side where they meet to the fenders! Its going to have to be sanded down on one side, and built up a little with a little bit of filelr on the other to get it to look smooth. There sn't enough material on the ends near the fenders to make holes that actually bolt to the fenders, so I had to make a plate with 4 holes on each plate, 2 to mount for the fender, and 2 to rivet to the bumper! WHAT A PITA! Still have to modify them a bit more...

Headlights and WW grill went in perfect! Only had to cut each side once, and swap a few of the headlight brackets around, and those fit perfect!

The hood isn't bolted down, or latced down... for some reason the latch isn't grabbing tight, so I have to take a look at that tomorrow...

Fenders came out GREAT! if I must say so myself! :) I was able to cut off a LOT less on the inside where the door hinges are, and now these fenders are much stiffer/rigid than my old stock ones that I hacked way too much inner material out of! I really think the doors are going to work much better this time around, and I just need to get the grease fittings, and add 2 small things to the hinges for stoppers to keep the door from opening out too far, or not enough...

The sidemarkers don't fit too well, either. they snap in, but push more to one side of the fender hole than the other, so a small piece of metal will need to be put in there to help align them correctly...

and SAMI, the quarter window rubber trim WILL NOT come off of my windows!
They are adhesived in with the windows, so I would have to pull everything out... I am still up in the air about pulling them off, yet.

Thanks Josh for hanging out with me today and giving me a hand when I needed it! I appreciate it buddy! :) and thanks for bringing up the exhaust too!

Tomorrow is my Mom's birthday, but hopefully I will have some time to at least fix a few small things. Finish up the door hinge alignment and function, drill out a few broken fender bolts!, take another look at the front bumper, and cut out the second exhaust hole in the rear bumper...

More pics as things progress! :)

thats some great work and progress there, sorry I wasn't around to help out yesterday. I didn't mean to thread jack either ... TH sealed the mtx ... but I did change shift towers and we used black gasket maker. I have to swap it again after TH keys my shift tower so I will have to check that and see it that is the cause. But it seemed to me to be collecting on the bottom, not the top. although the fluid was coming off the case and onto the subframe. Plus this weekend was the longest highway drive since everything was installed. Everything before that had been local, although for the same amount of time.

re: the hood: Check the hood bumpers (or whatever those little rubber things behind the headlights are).

ElKy had this problem when he got his CF hood at Spring Zing. It would not close because those bumper things were set too high - he twisted them to be a little lower and the hood closed great.

Actually, I removed those completely... There is NOTHING in the engine bay right now. No bolts, clips, trim, etc..., so I just think the latch needs to be slightly adjusted. No big deal :)

HEHE, kind of like the Harlequin GTIs that VW came out with a while ago... not the new ones that are white, grey and black, but the Red, yellow, Green ones!

headlights and sidemarkers are staying chrome. I wanted to do black, but not yet. Maybe later on if I get sick of the chrome...

Grill is staying black i think, and I really don't want to drop more money on wrapping stuff in CF... I have plenty of Cf as it is!

And GMK's hood hinges were unique, But I NEVER liked the idea... just my opinion, but if I have to work on the engine at all, or anything like that, I want to be able to access it without the hood in the way, ya know?
I'm going Supercharged, so if anything goes wrong, I need to locate things quickly....
I'll fix the hood latch issues, no problem... I think that becuase it wasn't bolted to the hinges, the latch may be sitting wrong and preventing the inner part of the latch from closing all the way... it'll get fixed! :)

I have a bunch of work to do for this Saturday coming up! Casey is coming by Saturday to start body work, and we should have it finished by Monday night if things go well... so I HAVE to finsih up the door hinge alignments, which BTW, I found zerk fittings that I think are going to work well!
Scotch-brite the engine bay, door jambs, and line up the WW side skirts...
Then finish cutting the second exhaust hole for the rear bumper, and making a template for the CF for the roof!
Great thing is, I have a set of electric metal shears, and they cut CF PERFECT!!! so all I have to do is trace everything for the roof and apply it to the CF sheet, and then use the shears to cut the piece out... My new favorite tool!

Hopefully Wednesday I will have some more time in the afternoon to get this work done!

Brian and Josh have seen it in all its stripped down glory!

I just pulled all of the fenders, hood, rear tailights, headlights, grill, off of the car again today. Was supposed to scotch-brite the engine bay today but didn't have enought time!
A friend came by for a while, and I went to Lowe's before that, so i only had about 1 hour to install the grease fittings into the hinges, and figure out what kind of stoppers I need to fit into them to hold the door from openning up too far or not enough...

BTW, Roger, I got a new Impact Wrench!! 525 ft/lbs!
also a few new 1/4" socket wrenches, and a 3/8" wrench... got a set of deepwell sockets for the 1/4" wrench, but they are standard sizes!!! they were on the wrong hook at the store, so I'll have to return them on Friday, and get some metrics...

I have ZERO time to do anything during the week! Saturday we start body work, too!

YEAH! Anybody who would like to come by and actually do so work!, can come over anytime after Noon-time...

We could use some help with sanding, and some other stuff. Lots to do Sunday!

And, yes, the side skirts are on, and they are NOT coming off! Quarter panel has been filled in and needs to be sanded flat... Front bumper needs to be sanding finished, and the 2 brackets I need to make to repair the ends that bolt to the fenders... PLUS, the roof template and CF piece need to be cut so that it can be adhered to the roof panel, and the sunroof panel, too...
Rear bumper needs to be sanded down as well... fenders and bumpers need to be trimmed out, and then primer can be sprayed, and then paint and clear...

so, anyone who feels like helping, please feel free to come by and lend a hand with MY Cougar! Thanks! :)

Snapped a few today but too tired to load them up! Tomorrow, maybe...;)

We have the sideskirts and quarter panel completely finished now...
Front and rear bumpers have been sanded done, now they need filler and primer...
Template for CF roof skin has been made...

Between Monday and Friday, I will prep the fenders, door jambs, taillight covers, and rear hatch area for trimming... Cut and install the CF roof skin... make the fender-bumper brackets for the front bumper... Remove the steering wheel and dash board (might as well since i'm replacing it anyway with another stock one)... "maybe" mock up and weld together my subframe connectors for installation after paint is done...

Lots of smaller things to do, but we are making progress!! I NEVER thought the quarter panel was going to get fixed until today! :)

NECO's version of CEG's Bagged? JK!

I don't know how long bagged has had the vertical doors and such, but I've had that done nearly 3 years ago now... If memory serves me right, I was possibly the first Cougar owner on NECO (besides Dayton Customs in Ohio) to have vertical doors...

and I did install them myself. Anyone who has seen the brackets knows how much work I had to go through to get them to work. They could still use some extra bracing for the part that goes to the door itself, because they tend to flex (sway back and forth slightly) if left up in the wind.

I almost thought about removing them and trying to reinstall the stock hinges, but after thinking about how much effort it took to do it, and how well they work now, there is a bit of pride in the work I did there, so I can't bring myself to reverse what I did...:)

He has been on CEG for over a year now and he did that to his car a long before he joined. I know he bought one of his CSVT's brand new in 2000 (I think was 2000).

I always thought it was a cool look when it was done right....so you could actually get IN and OUT of the car. The amount of work needed is always more than what one would think.

It is starting to look like it is going to be a great car when it is done.

Today's progress: not too much done, but I wetsanded the fender sides (jambs) to prep for paint, and riveted the brackets I made for the front bumper to the bumper, so I can bolt the damn thing up to the fenders...
also, removed the sunroof panel from its tracks so i can cut and fit the CF skin to it tomorrow... Should be doing that and the roof CF skin and adhering it with 24 hour 2-part body panel epoxy. Hopefully I can get that done fairly easily, and then wetsand the door jambs...

Mine are Brand new Aussies, never seen daylight until that day!

I worked on a few small things today. I removed the steering wheel. And cut out the CF roof skins, BUT, it isn't as flexible as i hoped it would be!!!!
I ended up taking the one large piece for the roof, and cutting it on the driver and passenger sides so that it won't cause it to bubble up in those 2 spots... kinda sucked that I had to do that, but the stuff is SO thin that I'll be able to make a small seam where the 2 pieces meet, and it shouldn't look bad at all... I'll have to trim all the pieces too to make sure they fit tight along the roof edges, but it shouldn't be too bad.

Looks like its going to be at least 2 more weekends before we get it finished in paint. things are coming up for Casey as he is reinlisting into the national guard, and they have him doing all kinds of tests and stuff, so right now, I'm on his schedule, which is fine by me.

I took all the parts I want to powdercoat or sandblast apart and put them in boxes, and they are ready to go, whenever Roger is ready for them, no rush at all. Lots of stuff to do, though....:)

Possibly I'll adhere the 2 CF pieces to the roof and sunroof panel tomorrow afternoon, but I don't know if I'll have time... looks like it will be a Saturday/sunday project to me.

And attempted to adhere the CF skin to the sunroof. This still needs to fully cure, and i know it won't be completely "bubble free" tomorrow! :banghead:
That Flex CF is GREAT! but it has a hard time trying to follow multiple contours... the sunroof panel "looks" flat, but it curves in quite a few directions!

If it comes down to it, I am going to have to get CF epoxy resin and cure some CF fabric to the roof... I still have a decent amount of CF left, so it should work, if we can't get the 2 roof pieces to stick to the roof... oh well.

Monday will be a few more small fixes in body work, painting of jambs, and engine bay... take another look at the roof skin... and hopefully fill and sand the bumpers.

Psh just give up already Greg. We all know that car sucks

Haha, anyways, I wish I could come down more often to spectate/help, but school is so darn time-consuming. The girlfriend is also rather time-consuming as well . Hopefully in the next few weekends I can come down when you're working on it :)

Today's progress:

Engine bay got its first coat of BMW jet Black, and clearcoat... needs to be wetsanded a bit and re-cleared for a ultra-glossy look to it. We can already see our reflections in it!!!

Door jambs got a coat of laser red, and it matches nearly perfect with the rest of the car... also needs wetsanding and a touch-up coat, no clear is on that yet!

CF skin DID NOT work, so I am going to epoxy resin the CF fabric to the roof and sunroof panel, then cut and sand everything to fit, then we can clear the roof's CF when clearing the entire car...

We are a few weekends away from getting all of this done... next Saturday and Monday will be more prep work on bumpers, and trimming out the fenders, and re-do the door jambs... and CF'ing the roof!!!

I have a few pics that i will load up in a day or 2 of today's work...

Wednesday afternoon I need to tape up the open door and hatch areas.

All of my parts that need to be Powdercoated are at Roger's house, so progress will be made in that department over the next month or so :)

Awesome! Great to hear... did you get an Xcal or get dyno tuned with a chip?

No real updates yet.

I have re-filled spots on the front bumper and need to sand and primer it after its completely smooth. The CF hood is ready for Clearcoat. The sunroof panel has CF and resin on it, but I need the resin to get really hard before i wetsand it to be ready for paint. With how humid and damp it is out right now, its not doing what its supposed to yet!
The roof has a layer of CF and resin on it. Needs to be trimmed all the way around, and then a LOT more resin added to it, and hopefully that will harden nicely so that can be wetsanded and cleared!

The sideskirts are completed. They were sprayed in the door jambs and cleared, but need a good amount of wetsanding to get some runs and surface dirt out of the 3rd layer of clear. The fenders still need their jambs painted and cleared. Engine bay is not perfect, but its as good as i am going to gte it right now, unless I re-sand and respray it on a warmer day, which i am considering...

driver's side quarter panel and dings in the passenger side door are filled, but I will have to go over the body lines to get them straighter before paint...

Waiting patiently for the rest of my Powdercoating to be completed, and then i can start reassembling the suspension parts, and then work on the motor/tranny, and everything else...

this is definitely going to take me a while, but I have some free time during the next few weeks to get some stuff done. I only have 2 installs to do for about 3-4 weeks before I work on a 3L install for Sami right before CFX...

I am trying to make sure it stays that way, too

i guess I am just frustrated. I haven't touched the car in a few days now, and the weather is making it worse! The CF is VERY hard to resin and get it to flow evenly over the material. there are bugs getting into the resin when the lights are on in the carport, so i have to go through the roof and make sure its super clean before the next layer of resin goes on.... then I need to make sure that the body work on the car is perfect before i prep for spraying the paint and clear...

the struggle continues...

definetely, im sure its a struggle but boy will that car be rewarding when its finished. ;) I'll try and make it down some sunday coming up and give you a hand with things.

I ended up getting an xcal and tune from NPG, the power band feels so much stronger and longer (thats what she said) and my idle seems a little funky now, im gonna be datalogging soon and sending it to NPG so they can tweak the tune. But all in all im very happy

finally this month I have some free time on weekends. I just pulled my car out of my backyard from it's winter slumber. Time to wash it, get tires and brakes, and then the clutch. Hopefully some weekend I can utilize a portion of your flat paved driveway to do the clutch??? Would just really need some advice on the most expeditious order of removal, etc. Maybe start on a weekday so the flywheel can get turned before weekend assembly?? Still a couple weeks away.

Got any impromtu work party ideas for later in the month? Have coolers of beverage and food, will travel. ;)

I wish there was an Update! :banghead:

I honestly haven't touched the car in weeks...

I am working on Sami's 3L swap for the blue/grey Cougar Tomorrow and Sunday, and then within a week or 2 I might be doing another 3L swap for SVT Loki from NYC... Plus I have a few other installs to do for various coworkers, CEG, and NECO members...

HOPEFULLY, I can get a string of 2 weeks to get some serious work done on the car!!! I just need to get through the body work and paint, then the rest will be EASY!

Yeah, no kidding! I have Sami's blue Cougar sitting out in the driveway without the motor in it yet, and it "might" rain Sunday!!

I got really hot from the Sun beating down on me today, and I nearly fell asleep when i took a ten minute break @ 4pm!!! I ended up staying home from work because I was too drained to hurry up, get cleaned up, then run to work for 8 hours... Oh well...

back outside @ 9:00am to get the motor/ATx back into the car and hopefully running by 1pm the absolute latest...

Yeah, I think so... I have to finish the epoxy resin on the Cf roof, and then I can start repairing small spots that need filler, and the Front bumper is a NIGHTMARE!!! after that... block down the whole car, clean EVERYTHING, then paint and clear!

Thanks Kim for the nice words there... that really is my downfall, being way too nice to anyone! I mean I give cash to people on the street who really need it, and have given rides to unknown people across town out of my way, just so they aren't stranded... I gave a young couple who stuck at a gas station with no money $20.00 so they could get home 30 miles away...

Just a lot of stuff like that... makes me feel good to help others, and at the same time, its kind of my way of repenting for bad things I may have done in the past, plsu I hope that those people I have helped try and pay it forward to someone else just once...:)

Nothing yet... Luckily I have have had some time to get some things fixed on My wife's car, and yesterday i worked on my SVt for the first time in a while, and I still need to finish a few things on that...

Next few weekends are looking kind of empty, so i might be able to get some Cougar stuff done... I am waiting on all of my powdercoating to be finished up, and then after paint, I can work on the 3L, MTX, suspension, interior, etc... :)

Don't worry, when progress is made, I'll post pics and info! :)
